Hello, 2025 This year begins with exciting partnerships and meaningful city [re]development processes that inspire and motivate us at Play the City. Take, for example, the #FoodsharingGame, which we’re developing in collaboration with the #Cultivate teams, including Wageningen University & Research , and the follow-up stages of #Kangoeroewonen036 with Kunstlinie Almere. Across the Atlantic, we’re thrilled to work with Stantec and the Urban Land Institute Boston/New England on a #MultifamilyHousing Development Game. Meanwhile, here in Europe, the #CivicEconomyGame with #Civic from London is set to roll out, with potential implementations in Voznesensk and other Ukrainian cities. In Ukraine, we’re also proud to start the partnership with Ro3kvit: Urban Coalition for Ukraine, STIPO, and INBO on #CommunitiesattheHeartofUrbanChanges —a collaboration that reinforces our commitment to urban resilience and recovery. In Türkiye, new projects are taking shape. We’ll be developing games for İzmir and the Marmara region in partnership with the #İzmirPlanningAgency and Marmara Municipalities Union. However, if there’s one thing we’ve learned from recent years, it’s that the world remains an unpredictable place. While we don’t know exactly what 2025 will bring, we’re open to face it with new collaborations and growing mindset for resilience.

What a vibrant discussion yesterday at the 4th Rencontre Elisée Reclus in Namur! "What innovations for what progress?" was the topic. It opened new perspectives, e.g. highlighting the distinction between technological and paradigm innovation, and stressing the emergent (autocatalytic, probabilistic) nature of life which cannot be fully understood within a reductionist and mechanistic paradigm. Preparing for the future means we have to create spaces for co-creation, for co-evolution with other beings on this planet. It also raised important questions. How can an R&I system increasingly controlled by extractive money become regenerative? How to empower individual researchers who 'mean well' but are caught up in the academic career machinery? https://lnkd.in/eD3KdZAa #Thankyou, Anne Goldberg, Roland Moreau, and colleagues.

- The future is always important, but never urgent! Daria (Dasha) Krivonos of the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies pinpointed our human bias towards today. But by asking us to imagine a day in the life of a child we know, when they are our age, she also showed us a way to give more weight to the problems of tomorrow. This stands out as the central message of the Nordic Edge Expo for me. After all It's tomorrow, and we can’t afford to wait to solve the challenges of the future. How do we #BeTheChange? Johan Galster of We Do Democracy brought in the importance of acceptance from inhabitants, with useful tips of how involvement processes creates better solutions and happier public. Sveinung Jørgensen and Lars Jacob Tynes Pedersen of the Centre for Sustainable Business // CSB NHH underlined the need for testing solutions in real world situations, with quick evaluation to make sustainable processes move faster towards impact. (Check out their podcast - Bærekraftseventyr med Jørgensen og Pedersen - in Norwegian.) After this and more, we were ready for the workshop on how to decarbonize urban mobility. A truly exiting day where Ellen Figved Thoresen (Stavanger) and Øvind S. Tanum (Trondheim) challenged us to find solutions on how to reach the Net Zero target within 2030 under the supervision of EIT Urban Mobility, Climate-KIC and Nordic Edge. Through intense group sessions with engaged and competent participants from all over Europe, process and solutions to move cities in a direction of reduced climate emissions and better cities were discussed. Hopefully valuable to the cities. Which brings us back to the starting point of the Expo – AppliedAutonomy’s interesting seminar on increased potential in public transport by replacing the bus driver with autonomous busses. Liisa Andersson of Ruter As took us for a ride into a future where shared robotaxis in cooperation with high capacity public transport has replaced the private car. As this is happening now, Ronny Fiuren of Forus industrial park, put it clearly: - It’s time to move from pilots to operations. Together with Mads Simonsen Thuv - Ducky, Espen Jørgensen - Kogenta, Tom Henriksen - Telia and more we have got the snowball rolling. We for sure aim to beat yesterday!
