AMNISTICE DAY. End of WW1 reminder. Let's not forget the huge human lost and suffering during wars. My prayers to those who gave their lives to defend their country, family and their identity. At 11.00 those who love life can offer 2 min of silence to honour those lives lost in war. Not only from Europe, but from all the planet. It was the war that led to the greatest lost lives and hunger in the world and a recession anticipating the WW2. I will, certainly. Each single Life is precious. May God bless their souls and those of their families. Thank you for this important post. As we observe the two-minute silence today, it’s a powerful reminder of World War I's impact on our world. Here are some facts about the WWI: -WWI began in 1914 after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, igniting a conflict between the Allied and Central Powers. -Involving over 30 nations, WWI was one of the largest and most devastating conflicts in history, spanning Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. -WWI saw the first major use of advanced weaponry, including tanks, machine guns, poison gas, and aircraft. -A large portion of the war took place on the Western Front in France and Belgium, where millions of lives were lost in prolonged battles. -Approximately 16 million people died, including both military personnel and civilians, with millions more wounded or affected by the war’s aftermath. -The U.S. entered the war in 1917, which significantly boosted the Allied forces. -Signed in 1919, this treaty officially ended the war. -The war led to economic hardship, a shift in global power, and profound social change, including the role of women in the workforce.

Where The Hell Are The Guns? That was a great question in 1939-40. When you finally hear "The guns are coming," imagine your shock when your Regiment is issued French guns, with wooden wheels, from 1898... I finished reading this last week and it's a riveting look at #Canadian #Artillery #history leading up to, and through the first few years of, #WW2. Over the years a lot has changed, but it's startling to see so many similarities that I've witnessed in my time - attitudes, humour, the Canadian Soldiers' ingenuity and 'make-do with' attitude, and the list goes on. Holding an Instructor-in-Gunnery qualification myself, I enjoyed the quips Blackburn makes at the IGs: 🔹 the presence of the IGs makes everybody a bit uneasy, especially the officers, for IG reports can make or break an officer or NCO. 🔹 IGs also have the power to ruin careers with their criticism...they evoke widespread tension among all the officers. 🔹 Ack IGs, who haunt the gun positions, making notes of criticisms for delivery to the officers of the Regiment... In the end, I can't believe that I'm only reading this series now. You're missing out if you haven't read these books! #ProfessionalDevelopment #LeaderDevelopment #BookRecommendations #Reading #ReadingList #CanadianArmy
