A few of our colleagues have taken on a little challenge. We asked them a single question: 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲 𝗟𝗥 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱... It may seem simple at first, but when you consider that they experience many different facets of our company every day, it's not so easy to limit themselves to a single word. Are you being overlooked by employers during your career transition? Growing up, there were always those go-to stores my parents took me and my siblings to whenever we needed something. 🥿 - If we needed shoes, we'd go to Payless ShoeSource. 🦒- If we needed toys, we'd go to Toys "R" Us. 🧥 - If we needed coats, we'd go to Burlington Coat Factory. These stores clearly did something right! They mentioned exactly what they sold right in their brand name and customers came to buy just that. This approach worked for Burlington Coat Factory... that is until they were overlooked by their new target customer base. People still thought of them as only a coat store, even though they reinvented themselves and also began selling clothes, housewares, shoes, baby items, and much more. Therefore, to attract the right customers the company dropped the "Coat Factory" and kept only "Burlington". Then on their signage, they added the tagline of "Ladies - Mens - Kids - Baby - Home - Coats" to specify all of the items they offer. If you are planning to make a career transition, I want you to take a page out of Burlington's book. Let go of a job title or career function that no longer serves you. Be courageous and rebrand yourself. If you are being overlooked by employers for your ideal target roles, it could be because they don't see you as the right fit. When it comes to my career journey, I've always believed in substance over style! Sure, having a killer wardrobe might turn heads, but the substance- the skills, the dedication, the passion- truly sets you apart in the long run. It's great to dress sharp and make a killer first impression, but what you do after that initial handshake is what truly matters :) Remember, it's not about the clothes you wear but the impact you make. What do you think? #CareerGoals #PersonalGrowth #SubstanceOverStyle

Focusing on the HOW of career transition first is like trying to find a black t-shirt you like and searching the ENTIRE INTERNET instead of just going to the Nordstrom website. 🖤You know and trust Nordstrom deeply. 🖤You have faith in Nordstrom. 🖤You know that if you just go to their site, you’ll find a black t-shirt that works for you and if for some reason it doesn't fit, you can easily return it. What if making a career transition could feel like that? If you could just know where to go to get what you want every time? And if the choice doesn't fit, you can choose another one? By implementing some subtle changes in your approach (like starting with WHO and not HOW), you can shake that trepidation and finally create momentum. It takes much less time and stress - - and is so much more enjoyable. Just like finding that perfect black t-shirt at Nordstrom. #careertransition #whobeforehow

Learn about a time when I was at a low point in my life and how I recovered! I can still remember my excitement after getting hired by SoftSheen. For the first time, I got my own office. My income went up significantly and I loved the work I was doing. This was the first time I got paid for solving business problems. As a result of my success… L’Oréal purchased Soft Sheen for an estimated $370m. But getting fired behind such a big feat brought me to a low point. After a soul search I realized it was a great time to start a new career in real estate. After passing my exam on the 1st try I ended up at Coldwell Banker Residential. And won “Rookie of the Year!” That was over 24 years ago and a lot has changed since then. How did I recover so quickly? I did the same thing I recommend you do… I asked myself a pivotable question: 📌 What can I do to serve others while being my highest and best self. Something amazing happens if you do this. Your subconscious starts to reveal what’s been hidden from your view. New opportunities emerge as you reimagine your life and business. This is some of the work I get to do with my clients. Most of us start a business because we offer a really great service or product. But here’s the harsh reality… We can't make it successful because we're missing: 1) a steady flow of clients; 2) the right packaging for our offer and time freedom. You can continue to figure it out on your own or you can get help from someone who gets it. #timefreedom #newopportunities #resilience

With all due respect sir, hell no, especially regarding your remark: “That usually means dressing professionally, the way most successful people in your organization and industry dress” I just strongly disagree with this, this observation in particular. The most “successful people” are not necessarily “professionally dressed”. Dress for the culture, the role, and even the situation, rather than using rules of thumb and arbitrary dogmatic rules from “seasoned experts”. If my clients wear sweaters and sneakers, me showing up in a suit is an insult to them. If my clients show up in suits or “professional dress”, and that is all or primarily what they care and talk about, then no thx, I don’t need to do business with them. Respect my dress and I’ll respect yours. (Yes, saying no to business is a mature and important skill to learn). If someone is judging me based on my dress, then it means they care more about vanity than solving problems. That’s no different than judging people on their weight, gender, age, or political opinions in favor over their labor. Worse, it means they want you to waste your own time and money: (1) on expensive clothing (2) on fleeting and arbitrary social status symbols (3) going through perfunctory daily procedures just to “look right” Thanks, but no thanks. There are plenty of opportunities out there with chill people who just want to learn, solve cool problems, and make money, rather than piss away precious time in one’s life attempting to get the right material, thread count, and appropriate shine on one’s shoes so as to emit the appropriate level of lumens of the daylight’s reflection to one other’s satisfaction.
This annoyed me early in my career. But now I see it as common sense. Yes, you should "dress for success..." https://lnkd.in/ec6xKX5F

Funny story about LinkedIn and my 2 year anniversary at Calderon Textiles. 2 years ago, I was in between jobs, interviewing, and ended up taking one I knew I wouldn’t stay at. It’s nowhere on my resume or in my job history. I worked there less than a month and quickly figured out that high-pressure sales was not my jam. I don’t operate that way so I left. I wanted to make sure the next place I landed was going to be a permanent stop. I found Ammar Khan on LinkedIn and connected. We started a conversation and it lasted for about 6 months. During that time, we got to vet each other out; Ask all the questions about industry knowledge, flexibility, capability, culture, turnover and Calderon in general. Once Ammar realized I would be the world’s okayest employee 😏, he wanted to hire me, but I also needed to get buy-in from Anita Ellis. So I connected with Anita on LinkedIn, pled my case, and got myself an interview. I thought I was all set, but they added another hurdle to get through, an interview with Troy Meiners. The people here are passionate, thorough, intelligent, caring, and hard working. Once I convinced them I was the same, I had my self a job 🤗 1 day of “stalking” those 3 connections on LinkedIn that have become friends, 6 months until I got hired, and 2 remarkable years with this company. The moral of this story is that LinkedIn can be very beneficial. Also, don’t stay somewhere that’s a toxic environment. What is meant for you is out there. GO GET IT!!! This last two years have gone tremendously fast, and I’m looking for the next 20 to do the same thing. We have a lot of momentum, a lot of dedicated, hard-working people on our team, and we are on a mission to do big things. Watch us change. Watch us grow. Keep an eye on Calderon Textiles over the next few years. It’s going to be impressive! 🤗
