Some quick interesting facts about the bridge:
1) Each side of this globally acclaimed structure measures approx 1/4th the size of a football fd.
2) 30,000 MT steel was used in constr of Chenab Rail Br.
3) Br was built at a cost of ₹14,000 Cr.
4) It is engineered to endure extreme conditions, incl temp as low as -40°C & seismic activity.
5) Additionally, it can withstand wind speeds of up to 260 km/h.
6) Dec 2004: Project was apvd by the then Govt.
7) Feb 2008: Wk Contracted.
8) Sep 2008: Project temp halted due safety concerns
9) Ph I: Covering 118 km Qazigund- Baramulla sec commenced in Oct 2009.
10) Operationalsation of the initial 18 km Banihal- Qazigund sec was done in June 2013 & the 25 km Udhampur-Katra sec was done in July 2014.
11) May 2019 was PDC (Planned Dt of Completion)
12) PDC was revised from May 2019 to Dec 2021.
13) Jan 22-Dec 2023: PDC kept getting revised due to various reasons. (Trial Run was conducted in 2023).
14) Feb 20, 2024: PM officially launched Udhampur- Srinagar- Baramulla Rail link Project (USBRL) project, encompassing 48.1 km Banihal -Sangaldan sec.
15) July 2024: is finally expected to open to rail tfc by July 2024.
