Do your parents watch Fox News (Faux News)? This example covers disinformation on US networks ahead of the coming elections. Sadly, we have our own problems with Rebel News, True North Center and others, spreading conspiracies and weakening democracy by purposely undermining people’s trust in government and our elections. Educate yourself and help others escape the cycle of misinformation and divisiveness coming to our democracy. https://lnkd.in/dFshPghp

Ads across UK media have to stick to the advertising rules and be 'legal, decent, honest and truthful'. But political ads, designed to influence voters in local, regional, national or international elections or referendums, are exempt. In a big year for politics and the democratic process, we set out why the ASA doesn't regulate the claims that people see in political ads. https://lnkd.in/dm6ZZK23

Early voting began about four days ago on Thursday, May 2 and ends about four days from now at 8pm on Thursday, May 9. I just checked and there are currently no lines at any of the 14 early voting centers in Montgomery County - you can check all 14 sites in real time at https://lnkd.in/e9SNESzK or text "EV [zip code]" to 77788 for three nearby early voting centers and their estimated wait times. If 2024 follows the pattern of 2022 and other elections, the numbers of voters will increase every day this week and the busiest hour of early voting will be the last hour on Thursday (and the second busiest will be the second-to-last hour). I can relate to procrastination, but you are more likely to avoid waiting in line by voting as soon as you can. Please keep that in mind if you're planning to vote during early voting.

Removing Barriers to the Ballot Box: The Case for Mobile Voting Tusk Philanthropies March 2023 The evidence from 2020 demonstrates the benefits of increasing options and making voting more convenient. Turnout in the November general election was the highest in a century, with nearly 67% of eligible voters casting a ballot. One study found that turnout was an average 5.6% higher in states that automatically mailed every voter a ballot. Pew Research similarly found that of the ten states with the highest increase in turnout over 2016, seven conducted the November election entirely or mostly by mail. Primary election turnout in 2020 followed a similar trend, with seven of the ten states with the highest turnout conducting their elections all or mostly by mail https://lnkd.in/e8cJThBt

4 Years since COVID sent us all home It pushed politics in unexpected directions. Mail-in ballots and early voting have always been important factors for political consultants, but not like this. Early Voting dates have always affected when a campaign should start encouraging people to go vote, but the volume of early votes was relatively unimportant, it was the timeline that mattered. Now? Mail-in voting is a very real part of how democracy operates in the US and is used in large enough numbers (since COVID) that results can change. With COVID, every state had re-evaluate their laws on voting from Home. Even in the most conservative states, laws were made more flexible. Some states really changed how we can access voting. COVID changed American elections forever
