Enjoy #NationalLighthouseDay with a drawing by nineteenth-century Japanese artist Utagawa Hiroshige. While best-known as a master of ukiyo-e woodblock prints, he kept dozens of sketchbooks, capturing snippets of life as he traveled across the country. Hiroshige's drawings are delicate, detailed representations of the people and places he encountered, and capture mood and atmosphere through simple lines and subtle gradations. This example is from the LSU Museum of Art's permanent collection. #LSU #LSUMOA #GeauxTigers #Hiroshige #JapaneseArtists Utagawa Hiroshige, Fishing Boats at Anchor, c. mid nineteenth-century.
