"Forced fun" in remote work doesn't have to be an oxymoron. Think of it as the glue that holds our virtual teams together. Mandatory movie nights or shared online games might feel scheduled, but they're our bridge to genuine connection and team spirit in the digital realm. It's these moments, seemingly contrived, that often lead to spontaneous laughter and deeper bonds. So, let's lean into the structure of "forced fun" and uncover the authentic joy and unity it can spark among us, even miles apart. Here's to finding the fun in the forced, making every virtual interaction a building block for real camaraderie. #RemoteWork #TeamSpirit #ForcedFun

It's a fact that there is an irreplaceable magic of in-person team dynamics. After a long hiatus from penning my thoughts for the LinkedIn community, this week’s inspiring in-person team gathering at Chegg Inc. has nudged me back to the keyboard. It’s a simple truth often forgotten in the digital hustle: there’s an irreplaceable magic in face-to-face interactions. As my teammates from Israel and Santa Clara converged here in NYC for a significant project kickoff, that magic was palpable. We aligned on goals for our work and were able to bring in students to the office to host in-person user interviews (which I haven't seen done since my Jet.com days 👀 ). It was a quick couple of days but having us all together really made it feel like we got so much more done. Dinners and drinks weren't just about unwinding. They were opportunities to see the people behind those Zoom screens. We talked, we listened, we connected. As a dad who cherishes the WFH life, this week was a reminder that some bonds are forged stronger in person. Here's the thing – building a team culture isn't just about avoiding the negatives we so often read about. It's about actively creating a positive space. Whether it's a Slack channel or a dinner table, the way we interact matters. It's about trust, transparency, and being the best version of our team. And sometimes, the best version is found when we step out from behind our screens and share the same air, the same space. So here's to finding that balance – cherishing the comforts of remote work but also embracing those invaluable in-person moments. It's about being the best version of ourselves, as individuals and as a team. And isn't that what it’s all about?
