Medtronic has plans to close five manufacturing sites and reduce its supplier base, CEO and Chairman Geoff Martha announced at the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference on Monday. The medical device company is cutting approximately 200 suppliers to “focus on strategic suppliers that can provide high quality, high service, continuous improvement all at competitive prices,” Martha said. The company is also consolidating eight distribution centers into two “super distribution centers,” according to Martha’s presentation. Martha did not say which manufacturing sites and distribution centers would be impacted or when they will close. We remember the early days of our business journey at Life Chem Pharma, where we encountered a client who believed in our potential even before we did. We were so overwhelmed with gratitude and thought to ourselves, "We must do everything to meet their expectations." However, we faced an unexpected challenge. The product we were entrusted to manufacture was something completely new to us, and the production costs were much more than we had predicted. We were filled with worry and thought to ourselves, "How are we going to fulfill this order without incurring a loss?" But we decided to face the challenge head-on. We informed the client about the situation and assured them that we were ready to dispatch the material immediately. Yet, as we navigated the complexities of the issue, it became clear that producing the product at the initially agreed cost was not viable. And that's when we realized the value of transparency in business. We communicated the situation honestly to our client, expressing our willingness to bear the loss while emphasizing the importance of collaboration in finding a mutually beneficial solution. It was a powerful lesson that we learned and has helped us understand that business is not just about transactional interactions, but about building long-lasting relationships based on trust and mutual respect. If you're ever feeling anxious about a business decision or you're facing a challenge in meeting a client's demand, just remember - transparency, collaboration, and commitment to client satisfaction can pave the way for a stronger relationship. It might not be easy, but I promise you, it's worth it. What's been your most challenging client situation and how did you navigate it? #business #indianpharma #transparency #clientsatisfaction #lifechempharma

Helping Medical Device and Pharmaceutical companies to commercialize their products | Supply Chain | Packaging | Marketing
The last four years uncovered a number of vulnerabilities to our global supply chains that have huge implications in the pharmaceutical, medical device, and life sciences industries. Here are a few insights via @Frank Costello that could help you achieve a better, more resilient supply chain: 🧠 Resilience is more than a state of mind. Not that long ago, offshoring the bulk of your operations was considered the smartest, most cost-effective decision you could make. This globalized supply chain model worked well when supply chains were running smoothly, but it proved vulnerable to bigger disruptions (e.g., natural disasters, political instability, and pandemics), which led to strained workforces, supply shortages, and transportation delays. How can businesses take the steps toward a more resilient supply chain in order to better ensure that patients have access to the products they need? Invest in proven track-and-trace technology for more effective monitoring. Technology like RFID tags allows greater data collection and analysis, giving you a greater ability to determine where bottlenecks might occur in your supply chain. Develop contingency plans for disruptions - Medical device, pharmaceutical, and life sciences products can often have crucial expiration deadlines by which a product must arrive. Do you have a backup plan for each step of your production and delivery process? Evaluate nearshoring for potential opportunities and assurances. Is it possible to open up or move production facilities to be closer to your customers? 9/10 supply chain providers that we surveyed said that on-time delivery was an important supply chain risk. If you can't move or open new facilities, can you find a distribution partner that serves the areas you sell into? And speaking of nearshoring, RRD’s 2023 Diagnostic Drivers Report found that two-thirds of life sciences companies are moving sourcing, manufacturing, and fulfillment physically closer to customers and end markets. A growing number of our clients have expressed a readiness to explore reshoring or nearshoring as a way to increase supply chain resiliency. Grab the link to @Frank Costello's full article in the comments and while you're there, let me know what steps you are taking or might take this year to build a more resilient supply chain. #medicaldevice #lifesciences #supplychain #pharmaceutical
