AERIAL DISTRIBUTION NETWORK EQUIPMENT – RAD BREAKING VOLTAGE OR DIELECTRIC STRENGTH Every insulating body has a distinct characteristic due to its chemical composition where it reaches the insulating threshold and becomes a conductor, this characteristic is called Dielectric Strength. The applied voltage that causes this body to change from an insulator to a conductor is called Breakdown Voltage. Breakdown voltage is accelerated by certain factors, which are: - Time of exposure to bad weather - Working voltage - Overvoltage in the system - Material fatigue - Presence of impurities - Others Dielectric strength is a very important physical property of materials, as it also defines the largest electric field that such a material can withstand, without sparks and electrical discharges capable of damaging it. Breakdown of dielectric strength occurs when the external electric field applied to a dielectric is large enough for that material to stop being an electrical insulator and become a conductor of electricity. It is also the moment when a given insulating material becomes a conductor. – that is, it loses its specific properties and starts to act differently. We also have the Dielectric Constant, which has nothing to do with Dielectric Strength, which is defined based on the ratio of the electrical permittivity of a medium to the electrical permittivity of the vacuum. This property is applied to capacitors, since the aim is to insert media with large dielectric constants between their plates, thus increasing their capacitance. #linesman #electrician #technician

What is your opinion about #InternalArc tests of oil filled #InstrumentTransformers? To perform such a test, an internal defect is deliberately made and a high short time current is applied, to show what happens if an internal short circuit will occur during the lifetime of the component. A correct design shall prevent large pieces to fly away. It is a destructive test, relatively expensive and not easy to reproduce. Since it will make a big mess, there are not many #HighVoltage laboratories that offer this type of test. It is one of only few tests that may provide insight in the safety design of the component. Despite the disadvantages, internal arc tests may provide useful information about the design of high voltage instrument transformers, so it may be useful to ask for test reports before buying this type of equipment. How Do Solenoids Work? 🧐 You asked, we answer! A solenoid converts electrical energy into mechanical work. Composed of a coil of (often copper) wire, a moveable plunger, and housing, when a solenoid picks up an electrical current, a magnetic field forms around the coil, drawing the plunger in. The housing concentrates the magnetic field generated by the coil. The moving plunger does the mechanical work so that an on or off task can be completed. https://lnkd.in/eUhs7D63 This movement creates a voltage difference between the two ends of the wire or electrical conductor, which in turn causes the electric charges to flow, thus generating electric current. A description of the main components of a generator is given below. The engine is the source of the input mechanical energy to the generator. Electrically-excited generators include an excitation system to produce the field flux. A generator using permanent magnets (PMs) is sometimes called a magneto, or a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). Armature: The power-producing component of an electrical machine.

Good day and welcome back to our Online Power System Learning session. Our Topic today is COMBI UNIT. WHAT IS COMBI UNIT? To a layman ,Combi unit is the Combination of Lightening Arrestor and D-fuse as a single protective device for our Transformer. The Transformer Combi unit, is a world first. The only fully integrated surge arrester and fuse protection isolating device. Function of the Transformer Combi unit: The Combi unit will protect or isolate the transformer from heavy thunder, Lightening, over voltage and line fault that can cause damage to it. It will also isolate the transformer for over current faults. Distribution transformers become an asset using the Combi unit. Transformers reach their 20-30 year intended lifespan instead of being lost within the first 5 years of service. I Acknowledged the Live Line Technology for the uses of this video .Watch the video for better Understanding of the operation of Lighten arrestor #Prenedospowerlimited #EngineeringExcellence #ElectricalEngineering #EngineeringEnthusiast #EngineeringCommunicator #ShineOn #BrighterDaysahead #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition #powergeneration #poweringthefuture #powerconversion #elearning #electricalengineering #electricalengineers #electricalcontractor #COREN #NSE #brainexpansiongroup #career
