Chronic kidney disease, also known as chronic renal disease or CKD, is a condition characterized by a gradual loss of kidney function over time. Chronic kidney disease is used as a general term that refers to kidney damage for more than 3 months or a continuous decrease in kidney function regardless of the cause. Ultrasound, is one of the methods for diagnosing chronic kidney disease. The best sonographic parameter that correlates with serum creatinine is renal cortical echogenicity and its grading in comparison to longitudinal length, parenchymal thickness, and cortical thickness in patients of CKD. *Longitudinal ultrasound image of the right kidney show increased parenchymal echogenicity with altered corticomedullary differentiation #Ultrasound #POCUS #Radiology #Sonography #Kidneys #Echogenicity #Chronic_kidney_disease #CKD

The #Philips #Co-regestration Angio plus IVUS feature integrates angiography and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) capabilities. It allows simultaneous imaging of the coronary arteries using both techniques, providing comprehensive insights into vessel anatomy and pathology during Cardiac interventional procedures. It can measure length with manual IVUS Pullback, and area and diameter for stent sizing. It also displays Co-registered IVUS and angio images side-by-side in real-time to help correlate anatomical and critical landmarks. This is especially helpful in complex cases, such as bifurcations. This combined approach enables better assessment of lesion severity, optimal stent sizing, and improved procedural outcomes. #Interventioncardiology #Cardiology #Philipsivus #philips #IVUS #modernPCI #intravascularimaging #PCI #Volcano

Interstitial lung abnormalities are radiologic abnormalities found incidentally on chest CTs in symptomatic patients or those who have subclinical disease. Radiologists should be able to distinguish them from interstitial lung diseases as a differential. The ESHRE guidelines recommend imaging for diagnosing endometriosis, with MRI being the best first option due to its wide anatomical coverage, providing a clearer picture of the extent of the condition. While ultrasound is still valuable for characterising certain types of endometriosis, MRI excels in detection and surgical treatment planning. The T1-weighted fat-saturation MRI sequence is designed to highlight blood-containing endometriosis, such as endometriomas, while suppressing the signal from fat. This makes the oval-shaped lesions appear bright and reveals abnormal deposits in tissues and organs that shouldn't contain blood-filled lesions. Additional MRI sequences help rule out other pathologies, such as cancer. High spatial resolution is critical, allowing us to detect endometriomas as small as 1mm on a dedicated pelvic MRI (with IV contrast). Much of the current knowledge on diagnosing endometriosis stems from research conducted over a decade ago. Advancements in recent years have established MRI as the preferred method for initial diagnosis. "Clinicians are recommended to use imaging (US or MRI) in the diagnostic work-up for endometriosis". ESHRE Guideline Endometriosis 2022. We offer a dedicated endometriosis scan here at Mermaid Beach Radiology. Recently, we treated a challenging case of a patient with Trapeziometacarpal Arthritis (Rhizarthrosis) at Radiology at Charité Berlin. The patient initially underwent TAME (TAPE) therapy using IPM/CS six months ago but unfortunately did not respond to the treatment. Following our SOP and the rationale of Yuji Okuno M.D., Ph.D, we scheduled a second procedure. This time, we combined selective embolization using NEXTBIOMEDICAL's Nexsphere-F (100-300 μm particles) with an unselective application of 2 ml of IPM/CS. The result? A significant reduction in pain within the first 24 hours, maintaining a low pain level (2/10) at the three-month follow-up. Cases like this highlight the importance of re-treating non-responders with larger particles (>100 μm) potentially in combination with IPM/CS. The impact can be remarkable. #healthcare #radiology #osteoarthritis #interventionalradiology #painmanagement
