Although the benefits of ectoin have been known for a long time, in recent years there has been a resurgence in interest that is likely due to two things. Firstly, the amino acid-like structure means that it can bind to proteins, cell membranes and nucleic acid and stabilize them, an excellent USP for any skincare product. Secondly, ectoin can easily form hydrogen bonds with water and therefore serves to aid hydration in cells, another key selling-point for numerous products. With this in mind, it looks like the future of ectoin is bright, and there are likely to be many more beauty products containing ectoin coming to the market soon, including moisturizing creams, serums, shampoos and conditioners, and even make-up. Cosmetics should not contain any forbidden substances. These substances can be bad for health, or otherwise not suitable for cosmetic products. But how do you know which substances are forbidden? Annex II of the cosmetics regulation contains a list of ingredients like mercury, lead, and more that you don't want in your products! It's a list of about 1729 substances (but who's counting?) that are forbidden for a variety of reasons. Newest additions: nano-metals including nano copper, nano colloidal silver, nano gold and nano platinum (forbidden starting next year). #Cosmetics #ForbiddenSubstances #SafetyFirst #CosmeticsRegulation #HeavyMetal 🌿🔬💄

🚨 This week's cosmetic product recalls in the EU (week 38)🚨 All cosmetic products should be safe for consumer health. But sometimes, a defective product enters the EU market. To catch faulty products, the EU has implemented a rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products known as SafetyGate, previously called the “Rapid Exchange of Information System” (RAPEX). This week 11 cosmetic products got recalled! ➡️ 9 products again containing the forbidden fragrance Lilial. ➡️1 product containing 1,4-dioxane (dioxane) which is prohibited from use in cosmetic products. It may cause cancer, eye irritation and respiratory irritation. ➡️1 product which contained too much salicylic acid (27% w/w). This ingredient causes eye damage and potentially chemical burns to the skin. That's one way of getting rid of your wrinkles! 🔥 So let's learn from these mistakes to make cosmetic products even safer. #RAPEX #cosmeticssafety #Skinsights #RAPEXradar #SafetyGate

Just because a company claims to be "medical grade", doesn't mean it actually is! Despite the fact that many drugstore products have such marketing claims, medical grade products are distinguished by the fact that they are only administered and available under medical supervision. Plus, just because a product is truly medical grade, doesn't mean it contains clean and ideal ingredients. All our medical grade skincare is free of phthalates, sulfates, parabens, dyes and artificial fragrances. #idahonaturalmedicine #idahonaturalhealth #idahovitamins #idahowellness #idaho #meridian #meridianmoms #boise #boisemoms #treasurevalley #idahoaesthetics #naturalskincare #cleanskincare

🕵️♀️Microplastics used in cosmetic products represent a significant environmental issue as they are in form of small solid particles and persistant. However, their usefulness is essential to the functionality of the cosmetic end product. Indeed, one of the ingredients families under the scope of EU regulation on microplastics are rheology modifiers. Seppic, as an expert in rheology modifiers, tells you all you need to know about microplastics in cosmetics in this article 👉🏽: https://lnkd.in/eCy4AVrc 📍 Where are they coming from? 🔎 What are microplastic ingredients properties in cosmetics? 💡 Are there already solutions to replace them? #cosmeticingredients #rheologymodifier #microplastics

𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 🌱 In cosmetic formulation, the art of ingredient selection goes beyond choosing the trendy or most expensive components. It’s about understanding how each ingredient interacts within the formula and with the skin. As cosmetic chemists, it’s key to stay informed about ingredient synergies and anticipate how formulations will evolve on the skin. By prioritizing skin health and sustainability, we’re not just formulating products—we’re crafting experiences that consumers can trust. #WisdomWednesday #CosmeticChemistry #FormulationTips
