✨ BUILDING ENGINEERING CELEBRATES THE COMPLETION OF THE NORTHERN MEMORIAL PARK DEPOT, A LANDMARK PROJECT FOR GMCT ✨ 🌿🏗️Building Engineering is excited to celebrate the completion of the Northern Memorial Park Depot (NMP) for The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (GMCT). This landmark mass-timber, two-storey facility provides a cutting-edge base for day-to-day operations at NMP. 🌍✨. Designed by Searle x Waldron Architecture, this project pushes the boundaries of sustainability and innovation. The depot boasts over 300 timber members stick-built on-site, alongside 150,000 locally sourced recycled bricks 🧱. With an expansive solar panel array 🌞 and a rainwater harvesting system 💧, this project takes sustainability to new heights, minimising environmental impact while maximising operational efficiency. 🌱 Mass timber plays a key role in the building’s design, reflecting GMCT’s aim to reduce its environmental footprint. This depot isn’t just functional—it's a blueprint for sustainable construction. 🗣️James Reid, GMCT’s Chief Built Environment Officer, emphasises the importance of partnership in this achievement: “The key to this project's success lies in the close collaboration and communication between our project partners Building Engineering and Searle x Waldron Architecture. The Central Business District (CBD) in the Village of Glen Ellyn is a historic downtown dearly loved by its residents. The CBD features an exciting mix of uses including commercial, civic, and residential and is served not only by automobiles, but by robust transit, bike, and pedestrian usage. Civiltech provided Design Engineering, Landscape Architecture, and extensive public engagement services on the Village’s CBD Streetscape and Utility Improvements project, creating a revitalized downtown with exciting and sustainable streetscape and landscape features. Prior to Design, Civiltech conducted a Phase I Environmental Study with extensive community collaboration. The Study looked at relieving congestion, improving safety, and providing better bike and pedestrian access. The pedestrian-focused design is forward-looking while preserving the CBD’s historic feel. The project was selected to receive a Special Achievement Award as part of the ACEC Illinois 2025 Engineering Excellence Awards. Also, the project received the APWA Suburban Branch Project of the Year for Transportation, $5 million to $25 million. Civiltech submitted the project for the ACEC award and the project’s Phase III consultant, BLA, Inc., submitted the project for the APWA Award. 🌍 Not Every Meeting Achieves the Initial Goal—But It Can Still Be Valuable 🏗️ This week, we met with a potential client whose vans, scaffolding, and cranes are a familiar sight across Scotland and the North of England. Having been involved in the construction of some of Manchester, Glasgow, and Leeds’ most iconic buildings, their work has helped shape the urban landscape for over 15 years. As their focus is on fitting and managing projects—using designs developed by external teams—they aren’t currently eligible for R&D relief or grants. However, through our discussions, we identified potential routes to complement their strategic inward investment. The client is now exploring the possibility of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) to bring in engineering talent and grow their in-house design capabilities, potentially unlocking new opportunities with funding support to reduce financial risk. 🚀 Sometimes, the meeting doesn’t go as planned, but it opens up new possibilities for long-term growth. #Construction #Architecture #BusinessGrowth #ArchitecturalInnovation #StrategicInvestment #KTP #Glasgow #Manchester #Leeds #Scotland #NorthOfEngland

As the #Nebula project nears completion, it’s clear how vital high-quality visualisations played its part in the success—from design and planning stages through to marketing. Our team at Monolith Visuals is proud to have produced the architectural visualisations that have played a role in shaping the journey of this research and development scheme at Milton Park (Oxfordshire). As Fiona J. Cooper highlights, the progress of Nebula is significant, no thanks to the expertise of a great client Milton Park, architect SRA Architects Ltd, and Barnwood Limited, as part of the project team that also includes ASA Landscape Architects and Ridge and Partners LLP. During the construction phase, visualisations act as vital representations of the project. They allow key stakeholders and prospective tenants to understand its full potential and align their vision with what’s to come. Without this initial investment in visualisation, it would be much more challenging to market and promote such innovative developments, let alone secure interest and future tenants. The value of these visuals is felt across the board—whether it’s providing clarity during planning, showcasing design intent to partners, or giving agents and professionals like Fiona the tools they need to elevate the project further, even before the final touches are complete.
