World Oceans Passive Acoustic Monitoring Day is back for 2024! The WOPAM Project started in 2023 with 150 researchers coming together to record aquatic sounds across 300 different locations, all around the world, on a single day. This year, researchers all around the world will continue to contribute to a growing global dataset from which the organisers will collaboratively analyze trends and patterns, explore unknowns, and showcase the ongoing work being done within the community. WOPAM collaborators explore how biology, technology and acoustics come together to better understand our changing oceans and the species within them. Are you a #musician or an #artist? The WOPAM team invites people to consider how they connect with sound, and what it means to hear these underwater voices and soundscapes. This year they are also establishing a network of creatives interested in exploring the different ways we connect and engage with aquatic sounds. Together, we want to celebrate the importance of underwater sound and what it means for both biodiversity and ecosystem health. More info at https://lnkd.in/gpWUcT3B, including how to contribute your underwater sound recordings to the project. #WOPAM #worldoceanday #worldoceansday #bioacoustics

SciShow never shies away from complexity, but we can’t pack all of the amazing science behind a subject into every 10-minute video we create. That’s why we wanted to try something a little different. Introducing: SciShow Deep Dives! These will be extra-long, extra-thinky, extra-extra episodes that explore the most fascinating things happening in science. The first one is a look at the bizarre future of telescopes with special guest host Alexandra Doten. Like the scientists and engineers who are working together to make these telescopes happen, we think great things come from collaboration! https://lnkd.in/gx_dQ9AB

🚀 SpaceFounders Features Release of the Space Documentary Fortitude We're thrilled to announce an exclusive interview with award-winning filmmaker Torsten Hoffmann, hosted by SpaceFounders CEO Lucie Campagnolo, celebrating the release of his latest documentary, Fortitude. This film delves into the burgeoning space economy, emphasizing the necessity for compelling storytelling and the inclusion of diverse voices in the industry. A must-watch 📸 Not only does Fortitude feature SpaceFounders alumni Barbara BELVISI from Interstellar Labs, but it also underscores shared values such as diversity and advancing space for the benefit of society. These shared values are the reasons why Lucie sat down with Torsten to discuss the role of Europe in space, why there is more to the story than the "big boys' space millionaire game," and the importance of techno-optimism. And yes, even yogurt and pineapples play a role 🍍. It's not just a great documentary for all space leaders and enthusiasts. With the EU soccer tournament ⚽ and all the excitement it brought now being over, there is an opportunity to find a new topic that Europeans can rally around. Space has the potential to unite people and share a vision. But for this to happen, the story needs to get out about all the space founders and heroes out there. Torsten did exactly that, and we strive to do the same. Watch the movie, spread the word, and join us in celebrating the innovators driving the space industry forward and learn how their work is shaping a better future for all. More information on the movie, here 👉 : https://lnkd.in/eSe-5Hb7 Go watch now! #SpaceFounders #FortitudeFilm #TorstenHofmann #SpaceStorytelling #DiversityInSpace #SpaceEconomy #Innovation #LucieCampagnolo #SpaceTech 🚀🌍🎥

What are the #RETOLD Partners up to right now? RETOLD wants to #document, digitise and share the stories of open-air museums. For that purpose, we have three very different museums on board. But as much as we are talking #museums, RETOLD is actually a tech dev project with challenging and ultra specific engineering requirements. The issue is that we could not simply tell a company to “build an app like that”. So for the technical side of things, we included several partners, like for example Nüwa Studios from Ireland. NÜWA is here to explore the potential of Audio and Visual Technologies, Digital Media, and Machine Learning, to empower cultural, academical and business organisations. Their challenge is to help the technical developers to lean out towards the museums, and at the same time telling the museums to also step a bit out of their comfort zone. They do this in close cooperation with other RETOLD partners and stakeholders. A large part of what NÜWA is doing right now is way too technical for social media but when we asked them to comment, they said:. “Being part of the RETOLD project has been an incredible journey. It is an honour and an amazing privilege to be the Industry Partner, led by Cordula Hansen PhD, of such an extensive European project and be able to deliver on preserving & enhancing cultural narratives digitally. On top of it all, the RETOLD project has provided us with fruitful and amazing connections with #EXARC and the European Open-Air Museum community, that we will carry for life, while we've got the opportunity to discover so much about the #Heritage sector. Thanks to RETOLD and EXARC, we became a proud member of the Network of European Museums Organisation (#NEMO). Last but not least, we are extremely enthusiastic about continue working on cross-border projects together.” #experimental #archaeology #openairmuseum

Happy Monday LinkedIn... - Do you sit in panel discussions at conferences with a valuable question or topic that you run out of time to ask? - Are you bored of hearing each panellist give a 5 minute corporate introduction full of pre-rehearsed sound bites that leaves less time for an actual discussion? - Do you find pre-scripted and pre-arranged questions less relevant to the topic of the panel? We want to change that. I'm working with RX Global and Oceanology International and will be hosting a series of expert panel sessions at the Excel next week. These will be 100% audience-led, with no corporate introductions, and the only topic that matters is how we can improve our industry. We can take the discussion in any direction we want. Discussions will be interactive, with the ability to pivot to interesting or controversial topics brought up by the audience, or those taking part on stage, in an effort to have a frank and worthwhile conversation about how we can all work to improve our industry. We all know things need to change, so let's start the conversation. I'm being joined across the three days by a great group of panellists to discuss your questions and offer their views: Rachael Burden (XOCEAN), Alex Searle (G5 Geoconsulting), Andrew Kirkland (Corio Generation), Andrew Deeks (bp), Chelsea Bradbury (The Crown Estate), Will Hodshon (Vysus Group), Dan Morgan (Scottish Power), Jennie Morgan (Seaway7), Phil Payne (National Grid), Marc Richards (Moray West), Ben Hooker (Oceaneering), Francesca Ghigi (N-Sea), Gareth Ellery (Global Maritime), Will Rowley (Offshore Solutions Group), and Chris Almond (Kraken Robotics) Here's the links to the Oceanology website with details. All sessions take place in the Ocean Futures Theatre on the exhibition floor. 12th March, 12.45: Session 1 - Site selection & development (https://lnkd.in/eiW759Zx) 13th March, 10.15: Session 2 - Construction & commissioning (https://lnkd.in/eBxjA7p8) 14th March, 10.15: Session 3 - Long term operations (https://lnkd.in/eN6MpzZY) #oceanologyinternational #paneldiscussion #different #netzero #joinus
