Last week at my #Comm481 class, I had the pleasure of listening to Heather Cmiel, APR speak and discuss her trajectory in the world of communications and PR. She provided me with insights into the corporate vs agency work, how to create a network, and how to build a brand. Her knowledge and expertise on the area were extremely helpful, and her words really resonated with me. In today's world, there are endless ways to connect with people, but also endless ways for people to ignore what you say. As communicator specialists, our job is not only to compete with organizations, but rather to compete for the nonrenewable resource of time. In Heather's words, "we need to make sure everything we do is worth someone's time and attention". So, I wanted to share with you these wise words, as we continue to live in this digitally connected but attention-deficit world, we need to make sure we are building a brand that focuses on creating authentic connections that captivate and resonate, and most importantly, it is genuinely worth someone's time.
