OPG is the largest generator of clean electricity ⚡️ in Ontario, but we don’t actually move our power around the province or deliver it to you, the customer. That job falls to Hydro One, which is responsible for transmitting our power, and local energy utilities, such as Hydro Ottawa or Synergy North, who distribute that power to your home. OPG’s sole focus is to generate clean power, which we then sell, at regulated rates, to local utilities through Ontario’s wholesale electricity market. We also play an important role in moderating the price of electricity in Ontario, as our electricity is priced about a third less than other generators in the province.

The US Department of Energy has just released its first-ever roadmap to speed up the connection of more clean energy to the grid. The goal is to finally clear the huge backlog of solar, wind, and battery projects waiting to be built. According to a report recently released by DOE’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, nearly 2,600 gigawatts of clean energy generation and battery storage capacity are actively seeking grid interconnection. The Transmission Interconnection Roadmap, developed by DOE’s Interconnection Innovation e-Xchange (i2X), is for all stakeholders, from transmission providers to interconnection customers to state agencies and more. The roadmap also sets aggressive targets for interconnection improvement by 2030 and outlines tools to quickly and efficiently connect more clean energy projects to the grid.

Exciting transmission news in the Midwest! MISO advanced its second portfolio of Long Range Transmission Planning projects, which would create a 765-kV backbone across the region. The grid operator expects the lines to produce net benefits of $23.1 billion over 20 years and $83.2 billion over 40 years across the Midwest ⚡ Next steps: -MISO committees to review this fall -Board vote expected in mid-December If approved, the projects will come online from 2032 to 2034. "Not only will more transmission help tap new, economic resources, but result in electricity bills that are more reasonable than if we had a balkanized energy grid." -Beth Soholt, Clean Grid Alliance Executive Director More via Utility Dive ⤵ https://lnkd.in/eW-h_Pvn

The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) board has approved significant reforms to the grid interconnection process, focusing on projects with high success potential. These changes aim to streamline the queue by evaluating projects based on commercial interest, viability, and system needs. If approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, these "transformational reforms" will help CAISO meet California's near-term reliability and long-term clean energy goals. By prioritizing areas with available transmission capacity, CAISO aims to accelerate the execution of interconnection agreements and commercial operations for the most competitive projects.
