“Unfortunately your application was rejected, because you do not have experience in XXXXX industry. “
This is the most common reply I get when trying to find a job in the company type , that is out of my jobs list in Resume.
The most successful people I have ever found in Hospitality industry were from a different field. Because I was hiring based on competencies and behaviours.
And we are not talking about jobs , requiring specific skills: IT, Engineering, Doctors, Teachers, Architects, Machinery Operators…
There are positions that require common sense, general experience and practices that are generally “sharable “ between the industries:
Accounting
HR
Sales
Marketing
Administration
Learning and Development
Etc.
Moreover there are industries that are cross-exposable.
I am a Hospitality HR professional who was directly managing HR operational processes, HR budgeting, Employee Wellfare, Employee Relations and Engagement, Payroll administration, Performance Management, Succession Planning, Management Incentive Compensation, Learning and Development, Talent Aquisition, Executive Committee Decision Making, operation of staff cafeteria and employee housing ( this is like running a small hotel but for the collegues) and a lot if ither areas of HR, Service etc.
Why wouldn’t other industries that are related to client experience want to hire me? #Retail
#Healthcare
#Education
#Banking
#F&B and Catering
#Real Estate
…….
Is it because they do not have proper onboarding and orientation strategy?
Adjusting to a different industry in my profession is just a matter of my common sense and proper onboarding provided by the company and , trust me , my Hospitality experience would only enrich the HR practices in a new industry.
Interesting to hear your point of view..
