Common images of #human #trafficking often focus on pimps compelling their victims into commercial sexual exploitation or criminal networks targeting migrants seeking a better future. But what about when the trafficker is not an individual criminal, corporation, or cartel, but instead is a government? The United Nations (UN) estimated in 2022 that governments trafficking at least 3.9 million people on any given day. These victims of state-sanctioned human trafficking constitute 14 percent of today’s estimated modern slavery victims. On Monday, the #US #State #Department released a new report that shines perhaps the strongest light yet on foreign governments’ human trafficking offenses. Which governments are traffickers? 🇨🇳🇷🇺🇻🇪🇱🇾🇦🇫🇰🇵🇲🇽🇨🇺🇩🇿🇾🇪🇸🇾 In 2019, the US Congress mandated that the State Department identify which governments have a policy or pattern of #human #trafficking. The new 2024 #Trafficking in #Persons #Report (#TIP Report) marks the fifth year the State Department has declared that governments exploit people in forced labor and sex trafficking. https://lnkd.in/d3atrAf4

The 2023 Federal Human Trafficking report identified 670 victims, averaging just over two victims per trafficker. Notably, the majority of sex trafficking victims are U.S. citizens, while the majority of forced labor victims are foreign nationals. The data also reveals an increase in victims trafficked into the United States from abroad, indicating a growing international dimension to the trafficking problem. This underscores the complexity of human trafficking, affecting both domestic and international populations.

There is a strong link between men who commit acts of terrorism, and having a history of committing domestic abuse. I have worked for years as both a terrorism researcher and in the domestic abuse field, and I cannot overstate how critical it is for these fields to engage with each other, and for DA to be treated as the high-priority, high-risk issue that it is. Mainstream research and practice on counterterrorism and CVE needs to integrate gender perspectives - neglecting to do this is to ignore a key driving force of terrorism and how we can prevent it.
For anyone unsure or unaware of how big the problem of violence against women and girls is, this should be an indication... 34,000 men had allegations made against them in one year in London... And these were just those where allegations were made - this will be a drop in the ocean. #domesticabuseawareness #domesticabuse #vawg #coercivecontrol #cps #police https://lnkd.in/eFbbrjqV

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, and IRS-Criminal Investigations is partnering with other government agencies to highlight indicators and federal initiatives to combat this crime. Human trafficking earns at least $150 bill a year in profits and disproportionately affects women and girls, who account for 71% of the world’s victims. Human trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of people through force, fraud, or deception, with the aim of exploiting them for profit, according to the United Nations. While common forms of exploitation include forced prostitution or other forms of sexual exploitation, not all human trafficking results in sexual slavery or other forced labor. 🚨 LYON, France: Authorities in the Americas, with INTERPOL's support, have dismantled a trafficking network. Colombian women were trafficked to Mexico. The operation captured the ringleaders and rescued eight victims. A Scheme Preying on Desperation: How did these young women fall into the clutches of these fiends? In June 2022, victims in Mexico escaped and revealed the horrifying truth. Lured from the slums of Cali, Medellín, and Bogotá (Colombia) with false promises of jobs in Cancun and Merida (Mexico), their dreams were shattered. Passports confiscated, forced into sex work, and bound by fabricated debts. The fight isn't over. Investigations continue. Financial assets are being seized. Remaining members of the scheme are being hunted. Supported by INTERPOL's Project Turquesa and funded by Global Affairs Canada, this operation is a beacon of hope. #HumanTrafficking #EndTrafficking #JusticeServed #ProtectTheVulnerable #StopExploitation #Interpol #AntiTrafficking #OperationRescue #HumanRights #WomenEmpowerment #FightForJustice #NoMoreTrafficking #SafeLives #GlobalEffort #CriminalNetwork #VictimsNoMore #RescueMission #StopHumanTrafficking #BreakTheChains #EndExploitation #SaveWomen #FreedomNow #LawEnforcement #InternationalCooperation #TraffickingAwareness #SurvivorStories #CombatTrafficking

Human trafficking, also known as trafficking in persons, includes both forced labor and sex trafficking. It not only represents a threat to international peace and security but also undermines the rule of law, robs millions of their dignity and freedom, enriches transnational criminals and terrorists, and threatens public safety and national security everywhere. There are estimated to be more than 27.6 million people — adults and children — subjected to human trafficking around the world, including in the United States. Traffickers often take advantage of instability caused by natural disasters, conflict, or a pandemic to exploit others. During the COVID-19 pandemic, traffickers were continuing to perpetrate the crime, finding ways to innovate and capitalize on the chaos. Like the United States, many countries around the world have worked to implement the “3P” paradigm of preventing the crime, protecting victims, and prosecuting traffickers, through the passage and implementation of national anti-trafficking laws. Today, there are 178 parties to the UN Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons. Only 14 of the 188 countries and territories assessed in the Department of State’s 2021 Trafficking in Persons Report have yet to adhere to this international standard to ensure their laws criminalize all forms of human trafficking, and take concerted steps to prevent human trafficking, protect all victims, and cooperate internationally to combat this global crime. Despite the nearly worldwide adoption of international and domestic norms to address and prevent human trafficking, we continue to witness traffickers exploit people in the United States and around the world. But everyone has the power to help make a difference. Every Presidential proclamation for January ends with a call to action for all Americans to recognize the vital role everyone can play in combating all forms of human trafficking. Handling cases of human trafficking is no easy task. It requires a tremendous amount of inner strength and resources to stand up for the victims, especially when the opposition consists of criminals with significant resources and connections. It's crucial to continue fighting for justice and to support those who have been affected by these heinous crimes. #HumanTrafficking #JusticeForVictims https://lnkd.in/dNresXKt

🚨 The Glendale PD is investigating a human trafficking operation linked to human smuggling debts. Court documents reveal numerous Cuban women are being held and sex trafficked. This operation extends beyond Phoenix, with ties to Houston, Las Vegas, and Miami. This is an example of the coercive control used by traffickers in both sex and labor trafficking cases, targeting vulnerable migrants. We must stay vigilant and work together to end these atrocities, collaborating across city, county, and state lines to build strong cases. 💥What is Modern Slavery?💥 “Trafficking in persons,” “human trafficking,” and “modern slavery” are used as umbrella terms to refer to both sex trafficking and compelled labor. The Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 (Pub. L. 106-386), as amended (TVPA), and the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (the Palermo Protocol) describe this compelled service using a number of different terms, including involuntary servitude, slavery or practices similar to slavery, debt bondage, and forced labor. #SDGs #SustainableProcurement #GlobalImpact #cips #ogp #humanrightsinprocurement #GenderEquality #PolicyMatters #SocialJustice #InclusiveProcurement #EmpoweringWomen #procurementprofessional #HumanRights #DueDiligence #SustainableBusiness #EthicalPractices #ValueChains https://lnkd.in/eZFHsY7U
