Great News: The EU Commission has given the "green light", and ITA Airways will soon become part of the Lufthansa Group family. The legal closing is expected to be finalized in the fourth quarter of 2024. Until then, ITA Airways and Lufthansa Group remain competitors. We will communicate more details as soon as the formalities have been fully completed. Smart insights are from the panelists, all mistakes are from me. 1️⃣ We are just scratching the surface of being online. (SS)  (Agreed!) 2️⃣ Passenger is still 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 much farther ahead than cargo. As the older brother, passenger travel started to go online with marketplaces 30 years ago and offered mobile rebooking ten years ago. Changing this requires changing core fundamentals. (MD) 3️⃣ There's no magic bullet for digital transformation. In many cases, it demands brute force, combined with careful change management that...first maps the fears behind the scenes that are causing resistance, pushes through them, creates good "happy ending" stories with tech, and then amplifies the vision. (JH) 4️⃣ With some 4,500 daily flights, internal transformation is a heavy lift and is hard to get buy in. Beyond full organizational buy-in, it also requires independent development so asks don't get deprioritized across larger organizations. (SK) 5️⃣ One opportunity for carriers to lean into digitization is the ability to add more features and functionalities, potentially mixing and matching service levels and unlocking more flexibility. (SK) 6️⃣ Change really demands leadership, making clear decisions and then communicating transparently with partners. That means engaging with the people you work with and at least giving them the change to get on board.
