❌ Celebrating Pride in June.  ✅ Celebrating Pride all year long! June was Pride Month. A time when people around the world turn their attention to the LGBTQIA+ community. Rainbow-coloured logos flood social media, advertisements, brand logos and more. While Pride Month is a powerful reminder of the progress we’ve made, we still have a long way to go. This is why at YourDOST we strive to create an environment where everyone feels celebrated for who they are - in June, July and every other month of the year.   We are proud to be building a workplace where inclusivity is an intrinsic aspect of our culture! Celebrate Diversity Month was initiated in 2004 to recognize and honor the diversity of the world around us. It is a time to recognize and understand our differences, be it gender, race, ethnicity, faith, sexual orientation, and other factors, while honoring the common essence of humanity. Thought!!! In today's tourism, acknowledging the economic impact of LGBTQIA travelers is vital. Caribbean hospitality trendsetter as Sandals Resorts International prompted into action now exemplifies inclusivity, reshaping to serve all and advocating for diversity. And as pioneers, they drive both diversity and economic progress. And while we look towards inspiration, Cuba leads regionally in LGBTQIA rights, yet faces global isolation. Stronger voices must unite for shared goals. Regionally, how can we advance humanitarian efforts amidst legal changes and growing acceptance? Businesses are prioritizing inclusivity for better LGBTQIA experiences. With our diverse cultures, we can reach new heights and become global leaders. 🌈 Celebrating Pride Month! One of my favourite times on LinkedIn 🌈 I love seeing what organisations are doing to recognise and support the LGBTQI+ community, to reflect on the progress we’ve made, and to recognize the work that still needs to be done. Diversity, equity and inclusion are not just buzzwords but essential ingredients for a thriving workplace. If you’re an ally like me and don’t know how to get involved, I would suggest starting with just x3 things: 1.     Take the time to learn stuff: Understanding the history and struggles of the LGBTQI+ community is crucial. Learn by googling or inviting your colleagues and friends to share. 2.     Support: Encourage open conversations and offer support. Even just say, happy Pride month! 3.     Celebrate: Whether its participating in Pride events, wearing a badge or lanyard, showcasing LGBTIQI+ stories or turning up to that morning tea – your visibility and action counts. And do it authentically. I love to see organisations celebrate love, diversity, and the diverse spectrum of human experience and may it continue beyond June always! 🏳️🌈❤️

What does traveling while in an interracial and non-hetero relationship have to do with “workplace bias, equity, and inclusion?” As it turns out, they are both strong determinants of bias in travel. My spouse and I are rarely perceived or treated the same when we travel together, even though we both hold advanced degrees and are award-winning professionals in our respective fields. We do our research to avoid locations with documented histories of recent race-related or anti-LGBTQ+ violence, but we still experience differences. The hotels, airlines, tourist agencies, and restaurants we interact with are all workplaces, and their biases negatively impact our travel experience. We receive vastly different treatment from the same flight attendants, service workers, guides, and other travelers. Guides and hospitality workers go out of their way to speak to my spouse and meet his every need while often ignoring me or seeming bothered to interact with me. Over time, I learned to be more vocal and to state my expectations unapologetically. This skill has been necessary when we travel together, especially abroad. In my experience, people (irrespective of their race, gender, or age) treat my spouse with almost comical reverence. When he speaks, they listen. When he walks, they move or follow him. When we eat out, they hand him the check almost every time, even when my wallet is on the table. When we use a ride-share service, the driver instinctively opens his door and lifts his luggage. This is not a “rant” of how slighted I feel because I desire the unearned advantages associated with whiteness; it is more so to illustrate that wherever we go, our experiences are shaped by the expectations others have learned to have of us. Pro-white reverence and hetero-normativity are learned, meaning they can be unlearned. They’re a relic of the past that cost businesses money and goodwill while leaving them open to reputational damage. Whose time matters, whose expectations must be met, and who deserves respect is socially constructed and determined. If we want to rid ourselves of bias against People of Color and LGBTQ+ people, we must counter and divest from pro-whiteness and heteronormativity. #InterracialCoupleTraveling #LGBTQWhileTraveling #Intersectionality.
