Mobile operators and GSMA unveil a pioneering Mobile Industry Manifesto for Europe: "New Rules for a New Era: Connecting Europe to 2030." A must-read for the future of our sector in Europe: 👉 Connectivity is the backbone of a competitive digital and green economy. It is the lifeblood of technologies, such as AI and big data, cloud, quantum computing, and the metaverse. The mobile sector’s importance as a strategic asset for Europe’s resilience should be recognized, and its value should be enhanced. 👉 Europe is lagging behind other global players. Excessive market fragmentation, spectrum costs, and an outdated regulatory framework have caused the telecom sector’s revenues to decrease. A paradigm shift is urgently needed. 👉 With over 100 operators present in the EU, European telcos have an average customer base of approximately 5 million subscribers each. By comparison, operators in China and the U.S. have 450 million and 110 million subscribers per company, respectively. 👉 A more pro-investment approach to EU spectrum policy can be an essential driver of Europe’s connectivity goals. 👉 There is a regulatory imbalance in the digital ecosystem between the largest tech companies and the telecom operators that needs to be addressed so that all market players benefiting from the digital transformation assume their social responsibilities and make a fair and proportionate contribution to the costs of infrastructures, for the benefit of all Europeans. https://lnkd.in/dVmJJfhn

After tracking NetworkX in Europe for a few years (and got filmed during last year event in Paris, around 1:43 in Network X highlights: Network X - Building Networks for the Telco to Techco Transformation (networkxevent.com)), I've got a chance to investigate North America's communication technology trends in Dallas/Irving, Texas. In accordance with its slogan, "Uniting mobile, fiber and cable to drive telco transformation in North America", there were number of topics very relevant for Deutsche Telekom and Hrvatski Telekom (as its valuable company member). My major takeaways (over many more): - Implementation of 5G-based new E2E Use Cases (campus, healthcare,…) still not adopted enough, giving us all the task to intensify education of our customers (not about technology but about benefits it could bring for them) + establish new partnerships in realisation & promotion of new solutions; - E2E ecosystem for NT slicing is completed (in certain telcos also up and running), giving opportunity to Telcos in better positioning against its customers, hyperscalers, OTT players; - Most vendors are committed in developing of Open RAN, but its complexity will reduce vendor landscape only on big ones. There are number of its smaller implementations around, but its great adoption will follow in next RAN HW refresh cycle; - Opening of NT, via APIs, to developers and 3rd parties is opportunity in implementation of new use cases, considering poor results of Telcos to develop them on their own. - 6G is going to require 60% more spectrum then 5G. Therefore, future spectrum allocation should not only be towards licensed & dedicated but also in unlicensed and shared spectrum bands (with existing users of certain bands), combining sensing and communication (ISAC), as great new capability of future 6G networks; - 6G preparations are not focused only on the development of NT and terminals, but investigate new Use Cases - essential for establishing balance of new investments (needed to deploy 6G) vs new monetisation streams; As conclusion, the conference was valuable spot to be briefed, inspired and get interested over new trend(s)/solutions(s) of vendors, operators, analysts. This is the key reason to encourage your team members attending such events, to broaden their view on telco business and recognise new trends. Last but not the least, networking was of great value (isn't it all about the people, at the end?) - I've met my colleagues from T-Mobile USA as well as many other experts, executives, presenters,... giving me opportunity to deep-dive in most prominent subjects for our future growth. Telcos ARPU is stagnant ✅️ Data per G is going down ✅️ Lack of B2B sell through ✅️ Not easy to monetize network slicing ✅️ but that shouldn't stop telcos to get into what they do best. Build a network! See how #Batelco gets into the Private Network. Reading from the press release below, it is not that Batelco is slicing their public network for enterprises. Like many telcos, they are building a parallel network using Nokia's DAC and MPW solutions, seperate to their own public network. Same goes for China Unicom. They are said to manage a total of 7,441 private 5G networks for businesses by end-October 2023, up 138 per cent - figures recently released in #MWC24 #PrivateNetworks #eLTE #Private5G

CelcomDigi has submitted its proposal to Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to deploy Malaysia’s second #5G network. We believe that CelcomDigi is in a strong position to build an advanced 5G network, with its nationwide and modern 5G-ready infrastructure, financial strength, and track record. Within a year, CelcomDigi has upgraded more than 50% of its network, way ahead of its three-year integration target. At the current run-rate, CelcomDigi is set to upgrade 75% of its network by end 2024. CelcomDigi’s retail and enterprise customers will stand to benefit immensely when the full potential of 5G is unlocked. With strong technical expertise and 5G experience in our Nordic markets, Telenor will continue to support CelcomDigi, especially in the enterprise space and share how 5G can enable large-scale transformation in the maritime, healthcare and logistics sectors.
