Lesson Learned: Moving beyond Mystic Dan and Sierra Leon Last week, I watched the Kentucky Derby for the first time. I know nothing about horse racing except mint julips and fancy hats. So, when they started talking about the favorites, I decided to join in the fun. I looked at the list and randomly predicted Mystic Dan. Then I picked Sierra Leon as my second choice. Little did I know then, that I had projected the 1st and 2nd place winners for the 2024 Kentucky Derby. If only we could pick our life choices so easily. Unfortunately, life doesn’t work that way. We are seldom that lucky and we cannot randomly choose our outcomes. Living in purpose takes vision, focus, and effort. Maybe you can relate. Ask yourself, what is your vision for your ideal job/career or life? Take a moment and focus on what you want personally and professionally. Now speak your vision out loud. But how will you manifest your vision? After you speak your vision into existence, you have to focus on what it will take to move the vision forward. Then, you must make the effort and take the action steps required to bring the vision into fruition. The manifestation of your vision comes from effort and purpose. It is not a random lucky guess. What efforts are you making today to ensure you have a better life tomorrow? I know we cannot control all of the outcomes, but when we make our visions plain, work toward our goals, grow our networks, and live with gratitude, we set ourselves in alignment for being in purpose. Today, move beyond random guesses and lucky picks. Today, set your vision, speak it out loud, and put forth the effort to make it happen. We are all living this thing called life. As I reflected on what to share with you, a thought popped up "TRY ONE MORE TIME". Many people are denied monumental victories and success in life – business, career, family not for difficulties, impossibilities, or unavailability but for quitting so soon. Life is like a relay race, and we must breast the finish line to obtain the winner's trophy. Aborting the journey of life - a goal, a dream, a desire, or a project half-way is like a stillbirth. I am not ignorant of how vicious and fierce life can sometimes be, but when you trust your leading, stay with it. The bigger the result you are expecting, the bigger the obstacle(s) to expect. Research showed that there were so many air planes designed and drafted from the 15th and 18th centuries before the Wright brothers developed and flew the first air plane in 1903. The winners always take the glory. Friends don't give up that dream or goal you desire in life. Don't let the current economic threat rob you of the glorious future you so desire. The three lepers in the bible took their life in their hands and challenged the famine and won. The gold you seek is closer to you than you think. There is victory, success, joy, and celebration at the end of that contention staring at you today, TRY ONE MORE TIME. Stay up and never give up. . . #business #monday

Sometimes you give everything you’ve got… …and it’s still feels like it’s not enough. A year ago, I resolved to come back and do the Frontline OCR after falling just short of my goal during the 2023 race. I had my plan for how I was going to come back faster and stronger this year. But then, some things came up in our family that we could not have anticipated. This sort of thing can and does happen during a race or throughout life in general. You can’t always plan for everything. We often have to learn to adjust on the fly. Our family has been doing our best to bob and weave with what life has thrown at us these past couple months and I’ve been doing what I can to make the most of my opportunities to train. But it can be discouraging to see how far behind I am this year compared to where I was last year. I know I need to cut myself some slack. I know that we had a lot less going on last year in our family. I was able to consistently train 5 days a week then, compared to 3-4 this year. I know I was able to get a lot more sleep, etc. And I know these are valid reasons, not excuses, that I need to take into consideration as I manage my expectations for this year’s race… …but it’s still difficult to let go of one’s goals and aspirations. Nevertheless, unless I take all of the appropriate factors into consideration, I’m just going to set myself up for failure. The goal of life should always be to do the very best we can with what we’ve been given (i.e. the pursuit of excellence). That involves being honest with ourselves about what we been given, and what we haven’t. I might not have been able to put myself in a position to compete for a podium spot this year. But that doesn’t need to negate what I have been able to accomplish under these circumstances. I don’t need to be robbing myself of the satisfaction of knowing that I still pursued excellence. Nor do I need to be robbing God of the glory that I can still bring him by offering up my best. And who knows… …perhaps I can still do better than I think after all. 😏 #outputhabit
