💡Learn about TEMS & tactical medicine in 🇮🇪 🇬🇧 🇫🇷 🇫🇮 🇺🇸 🇵🇱 🇩🇰 at the unique workshop! For everyone working in the prehospital environment ❗️ ➡️ #TacTrauma24 October 7-9 in Sweden HT American College of Emergency Physicians Tactical & LE section with a 🇺🇸 view on #TacMed ⬇️ What is Tactical Medicine❓ Tactical Medicine, or Tactical Emergency Medicine, is the medical specialty that involves the services and emergency medical support necessary to preserve the safety, physical and mental health, and overall well-being of military and law enforcement (SWAT) special operations (tactical) personnel and others at the scene of critical incident deployments and training. Tactical Emergency Medical Support (TEMS) units are the working medical teams that deploy in training and real-world crisis situations, and a subdivision of the Tactical Medicine subspecialty. Tactical Medical Providers (TMPs) render medical care during training and at high-threat deployments where normal EMS and Fire personnel cannot safely respond. TMPs serve on a variety of teams including: special weapons and tactics (SWAT), federal law enforcement teams, military special operations units, government agency teams, and others. Tactical medical providers are professionals who ideally are trained to function effectively and safely deliver rapid high-quality emergency medical care in austere conditions, and also be competent in preventive medicine, team tactics and weapons safety and marksmanship, security, waterborne operations, environmental medicine, wilderness deployment, USAR (urban search and rescue), HazMat, extraction, CasEvac techniques, defensive tactics, and many other skills. The primary goal is to save officer/soldier lives. The secondary goal is to provide medical care for others at the scene and expedite extraction and transportation to augment the EMS system. #Prehospital #CrEM #EMS #hems #Ambulanshelikopter #ambulance #policemedic #CounterTerrorismMedicine #stress #teamwork #decisionmaking #development

Background: Before the arrival of patients at medical facilities, emergency medical teams often encounter numerous challenges in dealing with mass casualties resulting from road traffic accidents. This study examines the challenges that pre-hospital emergency medical services face during mass casualty incidents caused by road traffic accidents. Materials and Methods: This study presents three road accidents that caused significant numbers of casualties in Golestan Province, Iran. The data for this report was gathered from various sources, including recorded images and videos, analysis of hospital records, and pre-hospital care reports. In addition, group discussions were held with emergency medical technicians who were present at the accident scene. Results: Providing relief aid in three sections, namely first responders, emergency call centers, and emergency medical technicians faces significant challenges. The challenges related to the management of mass casualties were mainly in terms of the inability to manage the accident scene by the first responders, management of calls and sharing information in the dispatch center, and medical measures required to be done at the incident scene. Conclusion: To ensure a prompt and efficient response to mass casualty incidents, it is crucial to focus on managing the incident scene by the first responders, as well as optimizing the communication and information exchange during dispatches and field medical interventions. To enhance the quality of emergency medical services, it is vital to develop educational programs, communication strategies, and standardized policies that can be implemented across all mass casualty incidents. #MassCasualtyIncidents, #FirstResponder, #TrafficAccident, #EmergencyServices

Military provider friends: Many of these assignments are akin to being on deployment to a role 1 or 2 facility. If you've ever deployed to an austere environment, you are likely qualified to take an assignment. Be sure your resume or CV accurately reflects your skill set. Medically speaking, focus on your familiarity with primary, urgent and emergent care. Highlight your trauma training. (TCCC, TCMC, Joint Enroute Care Course, Wilderness Medicine, etc). Discuss your familiarity with ultrasound, wet reading of x rays and ECGs. Just as important are your non-medical skills: communication, your understanding of the MEDEVAC process and other logistical issues, understanding of technology/EMR (Genesis is basically Cerner), your willingness to learn (how to perform your own x rays, draw and run labs, splint/cast/bandage, etc), cultural sensitivity and adaptability. Lisa V and Tanner at WMS are experts at matching providers with clinics needing coverage. I'm sure that they could find something that fits what you're looking for. The assignments that I have taken in AK have been phenomenal. Honestly, I have never been happier or more fulfilled in clinical practice. Come to one of these communities and really make a difference. Don't hesitate to reach out to me or a WMS recruiter if you have any questions and you think this would be a good fit for you. https://lnkd.in/dafgBq5N

The challenges of emergency medicine can seem daunting, but firefighter/paramedic Kevin Freier shares advice for new medics: being a good paramedic does not mean being perfect. "As anyone who's worked in EMS for more than five minutes knows, there is nothing perfect about this job," he said. "Stay the course, keep pushing forward, and have faith in yourself."
