LIVE LONG AND PROSPER 🖖 FIRST CONTACT DAY I didn’t used to be a big Star Trek fan (more Star Wars and Stargate), but in recent years I have begun to get in to Discovery, Picard & Strange New Worlds, and by extension have begun to watch many of the previous series. Did you know, that in #StarTrek history, April 5th is considered to be “First Contact Day”? This is based on the fictional history that on April 5th 2063 Zefram Cochrane first took a flight at speeds in excess of “Warp 1” in his prototype craft the “Phoenix”, which by extension revealed to the Vulcans that Earth had reached the right technological level to be introduced to the interstellar community allowed them to initiate first contact. This was actually depicted in the film “Star Trek: First Contact” as part of a really interesting time travel story. Now, I am not one to hide that I am a massive geek and love all things Sci-Fi so I thought it only right that I celebrate today with my own Vulcan salute. 🖖 If you would like to catch up on the Star Trek franchise or even just watch “First Contact”, the entire series can be found on Paramount+. Maybe I should have gotten a Star Trek themed Cap for this post? I am sure that they probably make them! Live Long & Prosper everyone! 😁 #FirstContactDay #FirstContact #LiveLongAndProsper #Geek #GeekCulture #SciFi #ScienceFiction Paramount , Paramount Pictures Side Note for Fan: Discovery is back on Paramount+ for its 5th and Final season.

For me, one of the best moments from the Oscars last night (also written about in The New York Times' Oscar coverage today) was the speech given by writer-director Cord Jefferson. As he accepted the Oscar for best adapted screenplay for “American Fiction,” Jefferson gave a "rousing plea for more investment in movies with modest budgets, saying: “There are so many people out there who want the opportunity that I was given....This is a risk-averse industry — I get it. But $200 million movies are also a risk, and it doesn’t always work out, but you take the risk anyway. And instead of making one $200 million movie, try making 20, $10 million movies....or 50 $4 million dollar movies...I feel so much joy being here and so much joy making this movie “I want other people to experience that joy. The next Martin Scorsese is out there. The next Greta [Gerwig] is out there. The next Christopher Nolan is out there. I promise you. They just want a shot. And we can give them one...this has changed my life." 🎇 Yes, to giving more creative people a chance to get their foot in the door! 🎇 Yes, to not having the default movie-making decision be another giant-budget fantasy sequel! 🎇 Yes, to helping more creative people see themselves in the industry! 🎇 Yes to creating more interesting, original, thought-provoking low/mid-budget films! Here's hoping that these things don't need to seen as risks to be avoided, and instead challenges to be accepted! To Eleven, LLC #oscars2024 #cordjefferson #americanfictionmovie #moviebudgets

The importance of sound design....
Sound design is often an unsung hero. The part of a film that people tend to think about last. Always the bridesmaid and never the bride. However, Johnnie and the Wave film team have fearlessly challenged this notion. #TheZoneOfInterest has ear wormed it’s way into the world and given sound craft the global platform it so greatly deserves. Whatever happens at The Oscars tomorrow night, we couldn’t be prouder of you for making this happen Johnnie Burn / Simon Carroll / Brendan Feeney and Max Behrens. Very good insight! I agree, the landscape is shifting. Adapt or die. As a TV and movie production company we can align with the streaming platforms, and with half a dozen companies reach HALF of the entire world's population. By doing so we can also control our own destiny and costs. That is alluring. The media distribution marketplace will dramatically change in the next 36 months. Is there a place for cinema, theatres, streaming, and other alternative delivery methods to co-exist? Time will tell, we all adapt, we all evolve, that is the nature of business. Here is a prelude of things to come...

Saw Matthew McConaughey's 2014 Oscar speech again today & as usual, it made me pause, recalibrate & reflect on the start of 2024. Am I focused on the right things & are they the essential things each day? 1 - Something to look up to = Gratitude 2 - Something to look forward to = My Girls (Family and Deep Friendships) 3 - Someone to chase - your hero = Be Better than Before Every day, every month and every year - stay authentic, keep growing & keep chasing. "Alright, alright, alright". Any additions? #bethechangeyouwanttoseeintheworld #growthmindset #transformation #beauthentic
