The role of AI in Nigeria's elections: Excited to share my recent interview on TVC News, where I discussed the pressing topic. In this conversation, I addressed the shenanigans plaguing our electoral processes and proposed a game-changing solution: integrating an AI Chatbot to interact directly with INEC (the Independent National Electoral Commission). While I understand concerns about data breaches, I emphasized that embracing technology is crucial for our electoral future. Yes, technology alone won't solve all our challenges, but collaboration among all stakeholders is essential for meaningful change. Let’s shift the narrative away from solely blaming the election umpire - it's time for all of us to take responsibility for the integrity of our elections. Our electoral needs to up their game, so do we all need to hold power accountable. This Friday, TEDxJohannesburg will be hosting a panel discussion at the GIBS Business School (Gordon Institute of Business Science) in Johannesburg on a critical topic: How the convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and misinformation poses unprecedented challenges to democratic integrity. This is particularly significant in light of the upcoming South African elections on 29 May 2024. So, what is the threat of AI and Misinformation? -> Undermining Electoral Integrity: Misinformation campaigns can erode trust in elections, leading to voter apathy and decreased turnout, weakening democratic foundations. -> Manipulation of Public Opinion: AI-driven algorithms spread misinformation, influencing voter perceptions and potentially altering election outcomes. -> Erosion of Trust in Information Sources: Misinformation undermines trust in traditional news sources, making it difficult for voters to distinguish between fact and fiction, hindering informed decision-making. In collaboration with TEDx events in Germany, Zambia, Pakistan, and Guatemala, our event contributes to a global conversation on this pressing issue. Admission is FREE, but the knowledge and insights you'll gain are invaluable. Don't miss out. Reserve your spot here: https://bit.ly/4aYauIt #TEDx #Elections2024 #TEDxJoburg

AI and geopolitics in elections: balancing innovation and risk Elections are the foundation of democratic governance, ensuring the public can choose their leaders and hold them accountable. Attributing electoral disruptions to foreign powers leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to interfere in domestic politics is becoming increasingly common. This effectively shifts the focus from vulnerabilities to external threats, diverting attention from national to international concerns. AI, in this context, serves as a litmus test for the efficiency and resilience of a country's institutions, the robustness of its information ecosystem, and the public's understanding of technology, writes Aleksei Turobov. https://lnkd.in/eMi92gxe #AI #elections #policy #AIxGeo
