Last night, we gathered at our third annual ‘Lund by the Lake,’ presented by Vermont Construction Roofing Division, to celebrate Lund’s transformative work with families across Vermont. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, donors, and advocates, we are thrilled to announce that we surpassed our $150,000 fundraising goal. Lund strengthens families so that children can thrive, and we’re immensely grateful to this amazing community for making our work possible! #Lund #lundbythelake #communitysupport #vermontfamilies

County leaders may limit how much money they give to nonprofit groups and projects serving low-income neighborhoods in light of looming budget challenges. The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors today is considering capping community spending per district at $1 million, but potentially raising the ceiling to $2 million for districts with greater need, such as District 2. The county’s technical term for such spending is “inventory items.” During the budget process, supervisors can propose one-time funds related to various community programs. The posts I have seen about Wellspring sunsetting show me that no matter how much trust is built into philanthropy, Our relationship to funders and philanthropic institutions is one of codependency, not interdependency. Foundations can sunset and leave organizations at risk along the way. But when nonprofits sunset, they don’t have the same impact on funders. I say this not to imply that funders are doing this to harm us! But to highlight that this the power differential. Funders hold the power no matter how hard they try to share it with nonprofits. And they hold this power because they hold the money. This illustrates the immense need to fundamentally change the economic structures in this country so that the compounding oppressions we face are resolved structurally instead of through the nonprofit-industrial approach. Otherwise, we will continue to depend on the will, commitment, and direction of a wealthy few.

What are the most common barriers to giving and how can donor families overcome them? As a partner to philanthropic families, learn about the actionable strategies and solutions you can use to better support the families you work with. The National Center for Family Philanthropy (NCFP) invites our Network Partners to join a session with Betsy Erickson, Piyush Tantia, and me to hear more about what we discovered while co-authoring our forthcoming Psychological Barriers to Giving report. During this virtual gathering of regional associations of grantmakers, consultants, and advisors who support family philanthropies, attendees will learn more about the report, which explores the behavioral science behind the ten most common barriers to giving—such as too many choices, fear of uncomfortable family dynamics, and lack of urgency—and provides effective and actionable ways for donors to overcome those barriers. Has the Giving Crisis Reached the Point of No Return? NO! But we have to pay attention.... "As nonprofits combat the giving crisis, a few key strategies are emerging. Organizations are working to build out their base of everyday donors with the goal of ensuring a continuous pipeline. To do that, fundraisers are working hard to build personal relationships to hold on to existing supporters, take advantage of donors’ own networks to attract new support, and rethink how to measure fundraising success."
