On this #flashbackfriday we are in Oak Park Heights, MN driving across the St. Croix Crossing, the nation’s first precast extradose bridge built over the scenic St. Croix River. Lunda Construction Company completed the project in 2017 on an accelerated schedule. This hybrid extradose bridge is a combination box girder and cable-stayed structure designed to minimize environmental impacts by allowing tower heights to be below bluff elevations and reducing piers construction in the river. Extensive coordination adjacent to an active navigation channel was paramount to the success of this project. The pristine and environmentally sensitive St. Croix River was to have a 300-foot channel to remain unimpeded during construction. Not only did Lunda have to coordinate the flow of traditional commercial and recreational river traffic, but at peak, they managed the operations for six segment barges, seven crane barges, and numerous material and lift barges controlled by five tugboats. Lunda’s marine spread operated daily utilizing both day and night shifts. Their efforts communicating and working with all agencies and stakeholders, including USACE and Lock Masters, were key to this projects success. #tutorperini #lundaconstruction #construction #bridge
