The Anthem Veterans Memorial is located in Anthem, Arizona. This breathtaking monument is a place of reflection for military veterans, family, and friends to show their respect for those servicemen and women who bravely and fearlessly served our great country. • The five pillars represent the unity of the five branches of the United States military serving steadfastly together. • Staggered in size with their appropriate military seal placements on each pillar, the pillars are arranged in the Department of Defense order of precedence. • At precisely 11:11 a.m. each Veterans Day (Nov. 11), the sun's rays pass through the ellipses of the five Armed Services pillars to form a solar spotlight on the glass mosaic of The Great Seal of the United States. • The brick pavers within the Circle of Honor are inscribed with the names of U.S. servicemen and women, symbolizing the 'support' for the Armed Forces. The pavers are red, the pillars are white, and the sky is blue to represent America's flag. • The circle, flanked by two "Soldier Rows," represents an unbreakable border. I'm calling on my network to support a highly personal and crucial piece of legislation that impacts the lives of our combat-injured veterans: the Major Richard Star Act (S. 344). This act, with over two-thirds of Congress backing it, aims to correct an injustice faced by many of our heroes who have sacrificed so much for our nation. The current system unjustly reduces retired pay dollar-for-dollar by the amount of disability compensation received. Retired pay is earned through years of dedicated service, while disability compensation addresses lifelong injuries. These benefits, established by Congress for entirely different reasons, should not be offset against each other. As Lt. Col. Mark Belinsky, USA (Ret), MOAA's director of Government Relations for Currently Serving and Retired Affairs, said, “Saving money on the backs of our combat-injured is a problem Congress can fix this year.” It's time for our leaders to take action. Let's urge Congress to include the Major Richard Star Act in the FY 2025 NDAA. Our combat-injured veterans deserve better.
