45 METRES BELOW ZERO | Inspection of a large excavator This bucket chain deep-dredger has been working continuously for a Danish cement plant for 45 years now. The chain-guided boom works at a steep angle of inclination of up to 50 degrees, achieving a reclaim height of 45 m. The digger weighs about 1,200 tonnes and carries out its deep-cut operations under water. The capacity of each individual bucket is 1.73 m³. This is the method of chalk extraction used at this plant for cement production, at a capacity of 1,700 tph. Bucket chain excavators are not only robust but also have a particularly long service lifespan, despite working in continuous operation. This large bucket chain excavator works frontally and is today mounted on rails. It is one of the most high-performing excavators in minerals extraction anywhere in the world. The length of service life left in the excavator in Denmark has been evaluated by an AUMUND Group team from SCHADE and Field Service, conducting an inspection of the overall condition. Subsequently, specific conversion measures, which can be categorised into three periods in the life cycle of the bucket chain excavator, were planned together with the operator. This will ensure that this 1,200 tonnes heavyweight will remain a highly visible symbol of chalk extraction for a long time to come. What equipment is needed for a sand and gravel aggregate production line? Sand and gravel aggregate production lines are mainly used to produce sand and stone for construction. They usually include the following stages: quarrying, crushing, screening, conveying and cleaning. The following are the equipment that may be needed at each stage: 1. **Quarrying equipment**: - Drilling rig: used to mine rocks. - Excavator: used to dig and load stones. - Truck: used to transport stones. 2. **Crushing equipment**: - Jaw crusher (coarse crushing): used for preliminary crushing of large rocks. - Cone crusher (fine crushing): used for secondary and tertiary crushing of rocks to obtain smaller particles. - Impact crusher: used for fine and ultra-fine crushing, especially for stones with higher hardness. - Roller crusher: used for fine and ultra-fine crushing, suitable for soft stones. 3. **Screening equipment**: - Circular vibrating screen: used to classify crushed stones. - Linear vibrating screen: also used for screening, suitable for different screening requirements. 4. **Conveying equipment**: - Belt conveyor: used to transport stones between different equipment or between different production stages. - Screw conveyor: used for short distance or different angle material transportation. - Bucket elevator: used for vertical material transportation. 5. **Cleaning equipment**: - Sand washing machine: used to clean soil and other impurities in sand and gravel. - Dewatering screen: used for dehydration of sand and gravel to improve the quality of finished sand and gravel. 6. **Other auxiliary equipment**: - Power distribution system: used for power supply of the entire production line. - Control system: used for automatic control of equipment and production process management. - Dust collection system: used to collect and reduce dust emissions during production and protect the environment. Depending on the actual production needs and the characteristics of the stone, the equipment on the production line may be different. When selecting equipment, factors such as the hardness, humidity, particle size, and output requirements of the stone should be considered, and the principles of environmental protection and energy saving should be followed. At the same time, it is also necessary to comply with the relevant laws and regulations of the state on the development of mineral resources to ensure the legality and sustainability of production activities.
