🔬🌐 Hugues Contamin, CEO of CYNBIOSE, and Erwan Bezard, CEO of Motac Neuroscience Ltd, recently contributed to an article featured in the journal Le Monde, emphasizing the geostrategic importance of access to primates for scientific and medical research. In this interview, Hugues Contamin and Erwan Bezard share a common vision regarding the need to establish a national strategy promoting access to this resource essential for European scientific sovereignty. Without such strategy, research companies like CYNBIOSE and Motac Neuroscience Ltd have secured their long-term supplies through direct agreements with breeding centers. This enables them to offer a unique preclinical service for the asessment of biodistribution, efficacy and toxicity of innovative therapies targeting the #CNS, especially #genetherapies and #ASOs. I am delighted to announce the publication of my first research article. 🎉 Our paper, published in Biological Research (Q1), explores the protective effects of certain Tacrine derivatives on liver cells, offering new insights into liver fibrosis treatment. In this study, we successfully transformed a known hepatotoxic agent into a hepatoprotective one, shedding light on the role of autophagy in liver fibrosis. A special thanks to the Science, Technology & Innovation Funding Authority - STDF and the Egyptian Knowledge Bank for their support, enabling us to publish this article in an open-access journal under their agreement with Springer Nature Group. For an in-depth look at our findings, you can read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/dwMVPHwd

Einstein Image: Hepatocytes Hepatocytes—the predominant cell type in the liver—are polarized epithelial cells: Their basolateral domains face blood vessels and absorb substances from the blood, while their apical domains form the linings of the bile canalicular network—the tiny channels into which hepatocytes secrete bile, a detergent-like substance that breaks down fats in the small intestine. Francisco Lazaro-Dieguez, Ph.D., staff scientist in the laboratory of Anne Muesch, Ph.D., studies the molecular mechanisms involved in maintaining the bile canaliculi; the maintenance of these channels is compromised in important liver diseases including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and hepatitis. Dr. Lazaro-Dieguez made this image, which shows isolated rat hepatocytes manipulated to form canalicular networks similar to those in vivo. Hepatocyte nuclei are shown in green. To visualize the bile canaliculi, the tight-junction protein zonula occludens-1 (yellow) and actin filaments (red) were stained. The multiprotein tight junctions help keep hepatocytes polarized by forming barriers separating their apical and basolateral domains. The image was one of the winners of the photo contest sponsored by ibidi, a biotechnology company, and is the March “Image of the Month” in the 2024 ibidi calendar. Dr. Muesch is a professor of developmental & molecular biology at Einstein. #molecularbiology #hepatocytes #epithelialcells #liver #research #science #imaging #biomedicalresearch

{فَأَمَّا الزَّبَدُ فَيَذْهَبُ جُفَاءً ۖ وَأَمَّا مَا يَنفَعُ النَّاسَ فَيَمْكُثُ فِي الْأَرْضِ} Alhamdulillah always forever ♥️ I'm thrilled to share that our scientific book " Epinephrine : uses, Mechanism of action, and Adverse effects" has been published and I am honored to be one of the authors for two chapters. This book is the result of a great effort of research. In this book, we collected a lot of important information about epinephrine, its uses, its mechanism of action, and its potential harmful effects, such as suppressing the immune system and its relationship to Cancer and others . If you are interested in the field this book will be a good and valuable source for you. #epinephrine #biology #biochemistry #mechanismofaction #immunesystem #scientificbook #Healthcare #medicalbooks #MedicalResearch

Meet Dr. Pamela Moll, our Head of Kit Development at Lexogen, as part of this series where we delve into the scientific journeys of our team members! "I studied in Salzburg and worked on Vitamin D's effects on primary human keratinocytes, crucial for psoriasis. Vitamin D treatment showed promise then, leading me to explore differential gene expression. After earning my doctorate, I spent four years in Toronto focusing on nucleo-hormone receptors, working on establishing transgenic zebrafish lines for all 48 human nucleo-hormone receptors. The goals? Isolating the ligands for the so-called orphan receptors and track the activity of the different receptors during development in transgenic lines, like a lightbulb illuminating activity in tissues. "After Toronto, I decided to return to Austria. Then, I stumbled upon a job ad for Lexogen—a perfect fit for my CV. Three days after the interview, they offered me a position. Starting as a Research Scientist, I now lead Kit Development. As a Head of Kit Development - you have a goal in sight - and you want to develop reproducible, efficient and convenient tools to help other scientist reach their scientific goals. Our R&D team is incredible—they tackle all my odd requests with enthusiasm. With each project, we draw from the wealth of experience behind us. All of the experiments that you ever did - they leave an impact on you.” Curious to learn more about incredible women behind Lexogen? Check out our latest blog post and be inspired: -> https://lnkd.in/dGWNhGRs🔬 #WomenInScience #TeamLexogen
