Imho, priority should be on creating safe and sustainable spaces for local creative expression, wherever they may be in the country. More in my new article below https://lnkd.in/gPdKKZ_i P.S. Will be exploring this and other ideas for sustainable filmmaking in a zoom discussion next week hosted by Fieldwork Studio. Details in my previous post.

Filmmaker | Artist | DJ Krusty | Award winning Screenwriter, Director, Editor, Producer | Currently working on my first feature film: Mary Jane: Glory Dayze
Our mission in filmmaking at Space Between The Gaps Films goes beyond crafting visually appealing sequences or evocative dialogues. It's about forging connections. When we say, "We produce our films to connect with everyone, including our mums," we're emphasizing the universality of our narratives. Our short film, BASTARD, stands as a testament to this. BASTARD showcases the meeting of two disparate worlds. Harry, draped in the trappings of modern success but burdened by monetary strains, and Jacky, whose wealth is measured not in currency, but in a simple bucket of fish. On the surface, they appear to embody the contrasting worlds of white, non-indigenous Australia and Aboriginal, black Australia. And yet, in a shared moment of respite— a simple medicinal toke— they unveil a connection that speaks to a deeper, more profound human experience. This connection, underscored by shared humanity rather than socio-economic backgrounds or racial differences, invites our audience to expand their WORLDVIEW. It challenges us to look beyond our preconceived notions and biases, to see the shared experiences, emotions, and struggles that bind us all. At the core of the most evocative stories lies a WORLDVIEW that transcends geographical borders, cultures, and socio-economic statuses. It's the essence of a story that makes it resonate universally, making it a tale not just for a select few, but for everyone—including our very own mums! A true story, in its most authentic form, should resonate as much with a viewer in a distant land as it does with our family at home. #film #thoughtleader #worldview

Film makers, have you ever poured your heart and soul into a film, only to find it leaving audiences feeling...well, neutral? The power of a truly impactful documentary lies in its ability to transcend mere information and connect with viewers on an emotional level. It's not about manipulating or exploiting, but about tapping into the universal human experiences that bind us all. But how do you achieve this delicate balance? This is where my book, "Docie Warrior" comes in. I delve deep into the art of emotional storytelling, providing practical tools and insights to help you craft documentaries that resonate long after the credits roll. Here are just a few key takeaways from the book: 1. Embrace vulnerability: Don't shy away from showcasing the raw emotions and challenges faced by your subjects. This authenticity fosters empathy and connection. 2. Capture genuine moments: Scripted interviews can feel forced. Instead, focus on capturing unexpected moments of laughter, tears, and genuine interaction. 3. Harness the power of sound: Music and sound design can subtly influence viewers' emotions, setting the tone and amplifying the emotional impact of your visuals. 4. Let your passion shine through: When you're genuinely passionate about your subject, that enthusiasm contagious and draws viewers in. Remember, powerful storytelling is all about forging a human connection. It's about making viewers laugh, cry, and most importantly, care about the story you're telling. Are you ready to become a #DocieWarrior? #documentaryfilmmaking #DocieWarrior #filmmaking #storytelling #impact #empathy #humanconnection P.S. One of our stories for "Heroes of Adult Protection" is getting some love from the one and only Stu Maddux in the editing bay! Laypeople might not be immediately familiar with the post-production process, especially in the digital age, one word resonates with all editors: "cut." Though the specific editing techniques evolve, the goal remains the same: communicating effectively and efficiently. While cutting itself isn't difficult, deciding what to cut is a crucial step. We value the stories of everyone involved in our films and want to ensure their voices are accurately represented. Interested in more behind-the-scenes content at The Clowder Group?
