✅Lunch with the expert! Professor Ulrica Nilsson was in the spotlight yesterday where she discussed her research with clinicians at the “lunch with an expert”: “The recovery of patients after surgery is a complex and individualized process, involving not only physical symptoms but also emotional, social, and habitual factors. I think it’s important to have a comprehensive understanding of all these aspects in order to better support and understand the patient. We need to systematically monitor these aspects not only during the hospital stay but also as the patient recovers at home.” #postoperativerecovery #perioperativemedicine #postoperativecare

Why should I watch a talk about the organization of surgical care? As a #surgeon, your focus is on performing #surgical procedures to the best of your ability. However, to successfully "run your show," it's important to understand the overall #process of providing healthcare. This knowledge will help you: 1. Increase the likelihood that your surgeries won't be cancelled. 2. Ensure you have the time and support needed to introduce #innovative improvements. The talk is 12 minutes long Enjoy OpenSourceResearch Collaboration Miguel Cunha Zoe Garoufalia, MD Erman Aytac ESCRS Emirates Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery

In the January 2024 issue of OR Manager, the article "Meeting the SPD Staffing Challenge" features advice and recommendations from Sullivan's senior consultant, Matthew Box, MMHC, CRCST, CHMMC. He suggests the SPD staff schedule needs to reflect OR workflow patterns rather than match OR shifts. "What works best is to ramp up throughout the day to meet the instrument volume coming from surgery, with overlap of shifts in the afternoon, then start moving downward in the evening unless you are a large university system that does surgeries all night long." Read more here.
