Oldest and Largest Transitional Program CSTL is the oldest and largest transitional program in all of Sacramento. CSTL has revolutionized transitional living with an intentional living program and lifestyle. In a previous post we have explained the differences between Intentional Living and Sober Living programs. Intentional living programs often emphasize a purpose-driven approach, helping individuals align their actions with their values. This can provide a stronger foundation for sustained sobriety by fostering a sense of meaning and connection, which may contribute to greater success compared to a standard sober living program that may focus primarily on abstinence. CSTL has embraced this structure for almost 35 years complimented by a peer-to-peer driven organizational style. In intentional living, a peer-driven approach can work well because it promotes a sense of shared purpose and accountability. Peers in such a setting often have similar goals and values, creating a supportive community where individuals hold each other accountable for intentional lifestyle choices. This shared commitment helps reinforce positive behaviors and fosters an environment where intentional living becomes a collective and empowering experience. CSTL’s innovative approach to transitional living has helped over 7000 clients for over three decades!  

It was so great to meet #seniorliving thought leaders from across the US at the Senior Housing News conference in Tampa this week. The breadth of expertise was energizing to be around. Amy McKinley and I genuinely enjoyed the experience! This got me wondering about a few senior living stats. Thought I would turn it into a bit of trivia! Check your answers below ⬇️⬇️⬇️ ✏️ There are approximately 30,600 assisted living communities with nearly 1.2 million licensed beds in the U.S[2]. ✏️ States with the most assisted living communities include California (4,100), Washington (1,902), Florida (1,804), Texas (1,295) Wisconsin (1,272) and Oregon (1,208). ✏️ States with the fewest assisted living communities include Delaware (34), Wyoming (43), Hawaii (61), Rhode Island (61), Vermont (70) and West Virginia (77)[3]. I traveled to Tucson AZ to help #lead a 2 day 16-hour training for the Amph Panteras Tenants Empowerment Program. My portion included interactive activities, group discussions and specific techniques custom developed to: learn conflict resolution skills through conscious clear communication, daily practical self care routines, easy effective mindshifts to reduce stress and a step by step process to write their inspiring housing experience story. (KGUN) — For those in the Amphi neighborhood, it's more than just a collection of houses and businesses. It's a special community of friends and family. Hassan Clement has lived in the area for about four years. He joined the neighborhood association, advocating for change to improve the area for everyone. When his apartment needed repairs, he said the landlord was silent and didn't respond to any of his inquiries. "Our apartments here, 17 people needed repairs from anything from non-operating refrigerators and AC units to toilets and sinks," he said. "And we were not getting a response from the people that own the property. We had to find a way to work and get the fit and habitable houses that we pay rent for." So he and other neighbors partnered with Ward 3 and other local groups like Old Pueblo Community Services to create the Amphi Panteras Tenant Empowerment Program. About 10 people will be trained and canvas the neighborhood educating people on their rights as tenants.

Last week, we shared a new word for an enduring phenomenon: wellbeing stripping. This #WellbeingWednesday, we're highlighting one of countless examples of how urban renewal has undermined people’s access to wellbeing. The start of Black History Month tomorrow reminds us that we cannot ignore how power has been used to extract wellbeing assets from communities of color. In this example of the Greenville neighborhood in Charlotte, NC, Black residents were displaced to build an expressway. The justification was that Greenville was a sprawling slum, therefore relocation would be preferable. But to fight wellbeing stripping, we have to start with the recognition that in communities that are denounced as “slums,” “underdeveloped,” or “disinvested,” there are problems and issues, but there are also relationships and history and ways people create safety and rhythms that are valuable. In Greenville, as in many communities that are written off, there were homes people took pride in, and spaces of connection where people converged to shop, play, pray, learn, or just gather.
