Earlier in the day, Russia’s top tennis player Daniil Medvedev announced that he would be glad to play at the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris if given the chance. "I will be glad to play at the [2024] Olympics if I get such a chance. I’ll do my best, battle, try to win and it will be very important to me," the Russian tennis player said. Other Russian tennis players have also expressed their desire to compete at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, including Andrey Rublev (World No. 6) and Yekaterina Alexandrova (No. 15 on WTA). "It would definitely be great to play at the Olympics because you only get that kind of opportunity once every four years," Alexandrova told Sport-Express earlier this week on Monday. Rublev told the same Russian daily last week: "If God wills and everything stays the way it is, meaning that we are allowed to play, if I'm physically fit and good to go, it's very likely that I'll go [to Paris]." It is very saddening to see such great venues in Greece not being used. I am going to use the Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer in 1994 as a good example from here on: The Organising Committee for the Winter Games had a plan for the venues after the Games. Thanks to that plan, most - if not all - venues are still in use: More or less every year the World Cup in either ski jumping, cross country, telemark og alpine skiing is held in the same tracks / hills as the Olympians did back in 1994 Often - maybe not every year - a world cup event is being held in the skating rink at Hamar. The Hockey arena in Lillehammer is used for Hockey and handball. The venues aren't just for the elite athletes. Competitions at lower level are being held here. A good example of use is Bislett Arena in Oslo: The rink that, as of May 2024, is the home of 61 official world records, is not reserved by elite athletes. Everyone from kids to pros use the tracks. Local competitions are being held here, from the youngest kids to those who aspire for a life as a pro track and field athlete. I'd say to any country with white elephants: Look to Norway.
