Recently, the Danish Navy rescued two pilots from a life raft after an emergency evacuation from their aircraft. The emergency life raft was inflated by one of Luxfer Gas Cylinders air tanks, and saved the life of the two men. We are proud to see our cylinders helping to create a safer world. A catalyst for change to Op capability delivery. 30+ years supporting Ops focused on enabling CAF & coalition with “outcomes-based”OPERATIONALIZATION of airborne effects. Maritime Patrol | SAR | SOF |UN. In Air Reserves.
…and look up and behind the MQ-9B to the VTOL FLRAA. Maximizing VTOL aircraft, in particular attritable UAS that do not rely on ANY runways, launch or recovery equipment generates maximum RESILIANCE & CONTINUED OPERATION when our runways are removed from the equation by adversaries’ actions. By dramatically increasing VTOL UAS “Swarm Carriers” of launchable effects that “platoon” up to 4 platforms with a single GCS, each carrying 3-4 air launchable effects (ALEs) and loitering munitions that can collaboratively swarm and penetrate deeply into contested areas, the coalition will have a LETHAL FORCE-MULTIPLYING blended crewed-uncrewed force. These carriers of sensors and ALEs platooning as a pack, simultaneously covering multiple distributed targets or conduct wide surveillance sweeps of a single large region rapidly also offers: ISR | EW for SEAD | Targeting | long range Precision Fires | Contested Logistics | HMT with FLRAA as a System of Systems | maximize autonomous operation with Human-in/on-the Loop | Comms Relay | operate in a widely cast secure, distributed MANET as a scalable pack of UAS node connectors of systems across multiple domains. This would be a tremendous CJADC2 Kill Chain/web enabler and it must be OPERATIONALIZED in the coalition ASAP. Our adversaries are building larger quantities of attritable UAS collaboratively teaming aiming to achieve OVERMATCH. We must press on with this critical cost effective, attritable missing link system of systems that can HELP ALL CREWED SYSTEMS SURVIVE. We must find these attritable systems for A2AD, team them with our helos to enhance the helos, Air Mobility & MALEs’ survivability in contested environments. DARPA ANCILLARY seeks a Class II VTOL UAS (Big enough to take sensors + ALEs/LMs + critical logistics supplies + land & takeoff from anywhere/any environment/any ship with a deck and operate up to 1000 kms over 10-16 hours endurance. https://lnkd.in/djitfEAi These could be the very 1st system of systems (attritable) sent into A2AD with known lethal threats even before an optionally piloted autonomous helo like future FLRAA (V-280). Why risk losing multiple $43M helos when an $8M UAS could platoon waves of 4 x Swarm carriers of ALEs & precision strike effects with a “punch” big enough to MAKE A DIFFERENCE to temp clear air corridors for the helos? This teaming potential and operating together into most dangerous A2AD areas as crewed-UAS RW dets (UAS on Point) is an ideal HMT pairing of Helos-Class II/Class I. The UAS as the attritable SENSOR TO EFFECTOR A2AD Penetrator & Air to Air & Air (incl. C-UAS) -Ground Interceptor. Share data back to all more vulnerable systems. .. “So That Others May Live.”, a SAR motto but applicable for this UAS “1st into the Fray (A2AD)” concept to help all other fleets (optionally piloted helos | MALEs | Air Mobility | Land and Maritime Syatems) operate with less risks to their destruction. In the Indo-Pacific, the Marine Corps and its joint force partners need as many places to take off and land as possible. #MQ9B’s high versatility, automated takeoff and landing capability, and other features mean the aircraft can exploit the full range of runways around the region. Yesterday I was cleaning windows at my daughter's house, which is on the low approach to a local AFB, and noticed on the outside bottom of several of the window sashes, a layer of dark greasy scum. These windows get cleaned at least every 6 months. This likely results from "dirty diesel" type jet fuel that the USAF is allowed to use, but commercial jets are not. Takeoffs of USAF jets are particularly dirty. I think there might be a lag between their new A/C kicking on, until the blower turns on, causing a temporary partial vacuum, which causes that outside air to settle on the window sash, as it has streaks, like inbound air into that leaky part of the window, is to blame. This makes me think that USAFB's might just cause 'cancer alleys' on their approach & especially departure routes, for a 2nd reason that is not about PFAS's. This needs studied, IMO, especially for bases near urban areas.

Why are civilian helicopter pilots, posting on social media, clearly stating that ONLY helicopters are capable of doing the rescues in the devastated areas of NC, TN, etc... and they are defining facts that there are 40+ civilian birds engaged in EXFILS and extractions, BUT only 2 MIL HELOS were in the area yesterday? how many military helicopters are there approx that could be deployed for this disaster asap? a fleet of 4000... WTF?

Dramatic? The US-Israel Deal for Combat Aircraft INSS researcher Chuck Freilich writes: The media carried reports of a “dramatic” new arms deal between the US and Israel, concluded in Washington last week, for a third F-35 squadron, another F-15 squadron, 12 Apache attack helicopters and aerial munitions. In practice, the deal has been in the works for a number of years and is included in the $14 billion special aid package announced by President Biden at the beginning of the war. Moreover, the deal was delayed by the Air Force’s ongoing indecision regarding the appropriate mix between the advanced F-35 aircraft and the cheaper and less sophisticated F-15s. The political instability in Israel in recent years, which affected the cabinet decision-making process on the issue, further contributed to the delay. Israel’s request to increase the number of combat helicopters, a conclusion derived from its experience in the current war, is the primary change in the final deal. The helicopters will be supplied starting in about two years, the F-35s from 2027 on, and the F-15s from 2028. There is no doubt that the deal’s conclusion - although still subject to congressional approval - is very important for Israel. At the same time, it is hard to shake the feeling that there were those who sought to over-dramatize the deal, for political benefit.

Lunch and Talk at the RAF Club on Thursday 15th August 2024 The Hawker Typhoon and the RP 3 Rocket “Scourge of the Wehrmacht “ By Dr Ray Carter This talk is about the story of the Hawker Typhoon and the RP3 60Ib air to surface missile. This combination made a fearsome weapon system that spread destruction and terror amongst the Wehrmacht and Waffen SS forces in Normandy from 1944 until 1945. I will be describing the troubled development of the aircraft and the need for a series of changes to both the engine and the airframe. I will be explaining the deployment and tactics used by Typhoons in their role as RAF ground attack aircraft. The Typhoon squadrons attacked trains, road rolling stock, road convoys, troop concentrations, armoured columns and precision targets like German radar stations and German Army headquarters. The impact of these missions was significant in helping the allies win the critical Normandy “battle of build-up”. The Typhoon also played a major part in halting the Mortain counter-attack and contributing to the killing fields of Falaise. I will be using 1/72 scale models to visualise these missions and the participants will be asked to plan and carry out a simulated attack on a typical German convoy advancing toward the front line. We will be exploring the reasons behind and the impact of the little know conflict between the leadership of the RAF 2nd TAC and the British ground forces in the early days of the D Day Landings. We will conclude with a discussion surrounding the post war controversy regarding the actual physical damage achieved, contrasted with the impact upon the morale and effectiveness of German forces and the fading prospects of victory. Price is £175 per person This includes pre-lunch drinks, a 3 course meal with wine and the expert talk To book a place, please email james@classicbattlefieldtours.com
