Most solvents used to remove CO2 from ammonia synthesis gas are based on MDEA, combined with a highly reactive amine like piperazine. MDEA helps reduce energy consumption because it doesn't react directly with CO2, unlike other solvents. However, for deep CO2 removal, piperazine is added to speed up absorption. Piperazine reacts quickly with CO2, while MDEA acts as a hydrogen ion sink, enhancing the overall efficiency of the process. Curious to learn more about reducing CO2 slip from the syngas unit?
