When societies are built on traditions and social norms of gender inequality and male dominance, male children are often held in a higher regard than female children. As part of the Gender Diversity and Social Transformation (GDST) course, we explored the topic of intersectionality in disasters. The session was facilitated by Ranjani K.Murthy, an expert in the field. Through various group activities, we reflected on the meaning and types of disasters, the concept of intersectionality, and intersectional discrimination. We also identified interlocking identities affecting marginalized communities and brainstormed good practices to address intersectional issues during disasters. It was an enriching experience for all the participants. #GenderDiversity #intersectionality #Visthar
