As many of you know, last week I was in Austin Texas attending BOTAO Live event hosted by Melissa Henault. In the spring of 2020, I toured early childhood programs in Australia and New Zealand. 🌏 I was fascinated by many of their approaches to early childhood but most notably how they structured outside time. In Australia, the classrooms I toured were organized in a circular building with outdoor play areas being open to students throughout the day. I loved that the students could just go into the outdoor play area right off the classroom whenever they wanted. In New Zealand, the access to the outdoor area was a little more structured but had a nature focused vibe with mud pie stations, barefoot options, and a community garden. My wild child heart could not love this more! ❤️ Most recently I came a cross a policy brief from the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) that outlines information on how state funded preschool programs are supporting (or not supporting) outdoor approaches to nature based learning and gross motor. This is a great brief to use with teaching teams in understanding how their practices fit into the bigger lense of early childhood intiatives throughout the nation. What does LIVING ALL OUT mean to you? As an adventure seeker, my life was built on living all out. I was the girl that made the boys baseball team. ⚾️ I was the girl that bungee jumped off a hot air balloon at sunrise. ☀️ I was the girl that rappelled down a skyscraper for charity.🏙️ I was the girl that understood early that life is precious so do the BIG things! Now in my 50's, I have let go of some of the adrenaline fueled adventures and leaned into grace, stillness, and creative flow. For most of Q3 this year I took off. ❤️Yep, you heard that right!!
