This article by Melanie Ho resonated with me as there are the same themes present in the corporate work, non-profit as there are in academia. See what you think.

At the recent "I AM A WOMAN" seminar, Chandani Di, co-founder of Voice of Slum, took the stage with a heartwarming message about the transformative power of education. She shared stories of children who, once left behind, are now studying in esteemed schools, a testament to the tireless work of the organization. Her words echoed pride, not just in the success of these children, but in the potential for every child to realize their dreams. Chandani Di also spoke passionately about her vision for the future, expressing her desire to open or support schools in every corner of the world. Her commitment to education goes beyond mere charity; it’s about fostering lifelong skills and empowering young minds. She emphasized that while financial aid is crucial, there's more than one way to help. By teaching a skill, mentoring, or simply guiding children toward a better path, we can collectively uplift generations. "If you want to connect with the Voice of Slum, you can not only motivate these children but also help by adopting their education and becoming mentors," she shared. Her speech was a powerful call to action. She invited everyone to contribute in their own way, whether through financial support or sharing life skills. With your help, we can ensure that no child is left behind, and every child gets the chance to dream, learn, and grow. Together, let’s shape the future by supporting the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators. . . . #nonprofit #helpingpeople #empowerment #InspireChange #positiveimpact #underprivileged #voiceofslum . . . This week on our member spotlight we would like to highlight one of our youngest & exceptional members’ Chinazam Igwe ✨ Chinazam Igwe is a grade 10 student who strongly believes that youth are changemakers of today not just tomorrow and she consistently embodies that through her advocacy work . Recently honored as one of Canada's top 10 u18 changemakers by the charity - Children First Canada , her engagements with non-profit sector include working full time last summer at Brilliant Labs teaching kids coding and other digital skills as well as leading projects that align with Un's sustainable development goals . Zammie is also on track to launch her own non-profit focusing on empowering racialized and newcomer high school students in atlantic canada starting with New Brunswick mobilizing and upskilling to become emerging leaders and changemakers poised to make an impact not just in the future but Now. In her words "WNN is important to me because as the data shows while many non-profits target female identifying individuals due to disparities as is higlighted by SDG's 5 . We see that there aren't many leadership roles by women and even far less reprisentation of females of color and many women remain underrepresented . The non-profit sector brings many valuable contributions enabling a more equitable and sustainable society . Hence networks like this are essential to make sure we as women come together and are enabled to change the face of leadership in the sector allowing for wide-spread impact on communities that need it the most." #Volunteer #youthchangemaker #educatekids #sustainablesociety

I’m hosting a free online event next week on Wed 25 Sept 12-1pm AEST with the clever folks at Barcley Consulting on Gender Equity in Schools, following on from some research we did earlier this year. Here’s a link to the research paper: https://lnkd.in/gEsWMWTG and here’s a link to register for the event: https://lnkd.in/gTXdGJmX All are welcome! 🤗 To maximise positive impact, in addition to opening up a can of worms on this important topic, we’ve decided to donate $5 for every person who attends the live session to a school in need. 100 attendees = $500. 200 attendees = $1000. And so on, no cap unless we crash Teams. Special guests include: ⭐️ Ahmed Moustafa, Professor of Psychology ⭐️ Amanda Keddie, Professor of Education ⭐️ Chrissie Coogan, Principal, Coorparoo Secondary College ⭐️ Timothy Mannix, English & Literature Teacher ⭐️ Sapphire Parsons, Senior Workplace Lawyer ⭐️ Coleen MacKinnon, Founder and Principal, Inclusivity Quotient (InQ) ⭐️ Leonie Rowan, Professor of Education ⭐️ Donna Wright, Australian Principal of the Year 2020 Even though the topic of this session will focus on Gender Equity, we know there is intersectional inequity throughout our school system, the worst of which is perhaps the funding inequity between public & private schools. We’re waiting on confirmation of Australia’s most underfunded schools by SRS% & we’ll announce the school name asap, but we wanted to give you a week’s notice to jump on board this event & help to increase our donation. You must be in attendance live for the event duration to be counted! To make things even more interesting, we’ll be reaching out directly to Australia’s MOST overfunded schools by SRS% to match our donation. We will see if they step in to support those who need it most. According to this source: https://lnkd.in/gZnTXTsA the 5 most overfunded schools in Australia are: Northern Beaches Christian School (171%) St Augustine's College - Sydney (160%) MLC School Sydney (158%) Newcastle Grammar School (147%) The Pittwater House Schools Ltd. (Official) (137%) And just in case you think they can’t afford it, the combined OVERFUNDING of these 5 schools = an average of $13M per year. 1M+ Impressions | 🇵🇰🇩🇰 19 | Voice on Gen Z, Education, Policy & Startups | Youth Advisory Board Plan International Denmark | Youth Council United States Embassy Copenhagen
How the Gen Z is leading The Future of Non-Profit and its Entrepreneurial and Empowering! 2 weeks ago I was pleased to announce that I had been selected as the newest member of PlanBørnefonden Denmark Youth Advisory Board. At the onboarding meeting that lasted 2 hours, I got an insight into the mission, vision, strategy and core values. The Strategy: Girls Driving Impact for Tomorrow! We at plan are on a mission to secure children and the youths right and to create equal opportunities no matter their gender. We want to be the organisation, that unites Danes in the fight for vulnerable girls and young girls and women equality. Did you know that for every year a girl attends school her lifetime income increases by 12%. We know for a fact that educated girls don’t just provide for their family but contributes to the economy as well. That’s why Plan focuses on their education, but employment and business opportunities as well. We want the kids and youth to be self reliant over the long term. Which is one of our main goals: We want to deliver a NEXT GENERATION SPONSOPSHIP, by developing products that attracts the GEN Z. I am therefore honored to be a part of such a modern and new-gen organisation and looking forward to achieve new height and set new examples for the whole Non-Profit industries. #genz #girlpower #education #nonprofit #empowerment #entrepreneurship

Charities like the one I lead have spent years trying to show young people just how fascinating and rewarding STEM subjects can be. Our efforts over a decade and more have changed the prospects of many individual students—but we still have a long way to go to change things for everyone. I have a few ideas on how we can advocate for systemic change together, and they involve making some changes ourselves: https://lnkd.in/ebaq6Egf

Thought provoking article that I think is worth contemplating. As an organization that primarily serves boys and young men (but working hard to get more girls and young woman in our STEM programs), how are we supporting young men and boys? Are programs that teach collaboration, teamwork, communication skills valued by philantrophy or is it just who we serve rather than the skills learned? "There are a lot of programs that do a really good job in high and middle schools of exposing girls to STEM professions, and there are basically none on the other side. That would be a really, really good thing to support. There’s some great scholarship programs for encouraging girls and women into STEM subjects. How about more scholarships to get men into K-12 teaching? Why not fund them alongside the work that you’re doing to get women into STEM?" https://lnkd.in/dbuVmrUJ

It’s officially 2 days to the end of our mentorship donation drive at CAWSTEM. In 2023, we kicked off a targeted mentorship and program for early-career STEM women (We had put it off for 2-3 years and finally braved the odds). We’ve now made it a yearly goal to continue this program and empower early-career STEM women. For each mentee accepted to the program, we connect them to mentors in their fields, link them with career coaches and help them become job ready through capacity building. We also provide data stipends so they can stay connected throughout the program. Our reason is simple. Despite making up half of the world’s population, there’s still a wide gender gap across several sectors. Current statistics reveal that globally, women constitute only 28% of STEM professionals. Women face a range of challenges in navigating their careers including accessing resources, finance, finding support, role models, and overcoming impostor syndrome. Addressing gender equity therefore requires a multifaceted approach centered around capacity building, mentorship and community. For this year's cohort, we're working with 30 early-career STEM women from 6 countries over a 7-month training-to-job program. Join us to make a meaningful difference. Sponsor a mentee today by making a $50 minimum donation to support our cause. https://lnkd.in/e6EKmUzC Your support will provide aspiring STEM professionals with the resources and guidance they need to succeed. Let's change the narrative about #gendergap together! #CAWSTEM #GetMatched #SponsorAMentee #WomenEmpowerment #Donation #WomeninSTEM #ProfessionalDevelopment
