Today is Sustainability Day. This day in 2015 is when the UN adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. In order to create awareness we have a flag at the entrance to our Bristol office is displaying the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Please think about how we can promote sustainable living in our everyday lives, at home, at work and at play. Everything has to start somewhere and many changes can be easy to achieve and many changes will save you money. So: ➡️ Clear out your unwanted clothes, books and smaller items and donate them to charity shops. ➡️ Take larger unwanted items to recycle centres, ➡️ Make your own compost (it is usually better than shop brought compost and cheaper too), ➡️ Reduce car use where you can by walking or cycling or Car share, ➡️ Turn off lights in areas where they are not needed and save the planet as well as your purse, ➡️ Take showers rather than baths and reduce the time you take to shower. So much work in sustainability revolves around supporting execs to connect with nature, to break free from deep conditioning , or simply the traditional way of doing business that sees nature as a product for business to use, rather than seeing business (and indeed ourselves) as part of nature. An aspect of this is for people to first connect with who they really are, to deeply connect with nature. To allow space for the heart to speak so that together we can dream another way of doing business, a way of doing business that seeks to restore and regenerate. What if local nonprofits operated in a similar manner with an Exit Strategy in mind? Not actually exiting, per se, but using this philosophy as a guide to internally scrutinize its mission, metrics, and tactics? What if an "endpoint" was ever-present in our minds, and it served as both the backdrop and impetus for a robust strategic review process every few years? Interesting and relevant thoughts from an old post concerning international NGOs. "In the case of WaterSHED, we had an aspirational goal that everyone in Cambodia should be able to access a toilet. Small Habits Lead to Big Changes ♻️ This was the theme for KCR UK's #KCRforEarth project this summer! As part of our ongoing commitment to #sustainability, KCR launched the initiative this spring and allocated to each KCR country team for the implementation of earth-friendly practices. The KCR #UK team went above and beyond, developing a point-based reward system based on the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals. At the end of the project, the employee with the most points received funding to donate to a #charity of their choosing. Need some inspiration?
