Choosing between two Such a story that we tell The binary thinking There are only two choices. There are a million choices Harboring untold spaces of possibility If I lean into the gap Peeking between X and Y Whole galaxies exist Sometimes the magnitude overwhelms The expanse of so many considerations Pulled in every direction. Choosing between the two Seems easier The façade of simplicity Beneath the surface of simplicity lies complexity. What consequences will ripple forward? How will this new world — my world — emerge? I took a deep breath and jumped Into the illusion of solid ground, where knowing felt like safety, as if certainty were a tether to keep me from floating adrift. The tides move, Currents danced underfoot, Constant motion The shifting of my mind. Knowing is a veil we wear. Worn for what? I took a deep breath Letting go of the knowing For the value of not knowing No maps or guides Only trust and intuition Plunging into the deep end Trusting that where the edges         Of certainty dissolve There would be wonder And a willingness To use what I know as ballast Keeping the ship steady until time to refill Heaving it off to allow for space A lightness me with new ideas. 20241010 #thursdaypoetrysociety
