With ChatGPT-4o incorporating new emotional intelligence capabilities, many are concerned that this may lead to algorithmic bias and ethical issues with its use. At Lyssn, we break these concerns into four critical areas that need to be assessed in any AI that interacts with humans in a health or behavioral health space: safety, bias, transparent validation, and robustness. Over the course of the next few months, we will be sharing much more on these topics. Follow our page to stay up to date! #chatgpt #ethicalAi #mentalhealthtech #aidebate

Attention, folks! Did you know that your beliefs about AI could actually affect how it responds to you? A new study conducted by Pat Pataranutaporn at the M.I.T. Media Lab reveals that user bias can significantly influence the way we interpret and perceive the answers provided by AI systems. In other words, "AI is a mirror" reflecting our own biases in its responses. This phenomenon has been dubbed the "AI placebo effect." ????So, if you've ever interacted with generative AI like ChatGPT or Claude 2, chances are you've already formulated an opinion on whether these bots will benefit or harm humanity and our workforce. Now, this study suggests that your belief could actually shape how programs like ChatGPT respond to you. To test this theory, researchers divided 300 participants into different groups and had them engage with an AI program to evaluate its mental and health support capabilities. It's fascinating stuff! Make sense? How do you think your outlook on AI would impact its responses? Share your thoughts below and let's chat! #ArtificialIntelligence #AIEffects #BeliefMatters https://lnkd.in/euwU_aeq

I recently came across an insightful perspective by Noam Chomsky on Artificial Intelligence, which resonates deeply with my own thoughts: “The human mind is not, like ChatGPT and its ilk, a lumbering statistical engine for pattern matching, gorging on hundreds of terabytes of data and extrapolating the most likely conversational response or most probable answer to a scientific question. On the contrary, the human mind is a surprisingly efficient and even elegant system that operates with small amounts of information; it seeks not to infer brute correlations among data points but to create explanations.” Chomsky’s words highlight a fundamental difference between human intelligence and current AI technologies. While AI excels at processing vast amounts of data to find patterns, it lacks the creative and explanatory power of the human mind. This brings me to a point I feel strongly about: the untapped potential of individuals on the autism spectrum (ASD). People on the spectrum often possess unique cognitive abilities, such as heightened attention to detail, exceptional memory, and innovative problem-solving skills. These traits can be incredibly valuable, especially in fields like AI where unconventional thinking is a key asset. By embracing and integrating the skills of those on the autism spectrum, we not only foster a more inclusive workforce but also unlock a wealth of creative potential. Their unique perspectives can drive innovation and help us to think outside the box, challenging the limitations of current AI technologies. As we continue to develop and utilize AI, let’s not forget the importance of human creativity and ingenuity. By valuing and harnessing the strengths of all individuals, we can create a future where technology and human potential go hand in hand, leading to groundbreaking advancements. #AI #Autism #Innovation #Inclusion #Creativity

Doing research today on projections about wellness products in the US and thought I'd see what ChatGPT came up with. It was interesting to see that it went all hands off when it came to pulling together numbers. Here is what it shared with me (I removed some of the specific areas I asked from blurb below to shorten): "As an AI language model, I don't have real-time access to databases or the ability to browse the internet, so I can't provide specific current numbers on the projected number of wellness product companies in the Southern United States...however, I can give you an idea of the types of statistics you might find through research..." And then it gave me a super helpful list of where to start and what to think about when doing my own pull and research. So I'm curious... - Have you experienced this with AI before? - Have you found bots to help with research like this and if so, where? - Is there a different query I should be putting in? - What do you think the future of research will be when it comes to AI? p.s. Is that the sound of librarians rejoicing right now? :p #AI #ProductResearch #ResearchAndAI #producthinking

Mental Health Marketing Partner. ┃ Founder, Therapy Trust Collective. ┃ Communicator, clinician, consultant, copywriter. ┃ Clinician Advocate.
General AI isn't a thing, and won't be for a long time. We don't yet have the ability to make AI that can handle more than one task well. That means every AI software you use is trained on a data set for one task alone. If it's based on ChatGPT, it's trained to be good at putting words together- not necessarily interpreting language or giving feedback. We need to normalize asking, "What was this AI trained to do? And is that what I'm asking it to do?" ESPECIALLY in mental health. #mentalhealth #ai #specificity

In my conversation with Ken Liu last week, amongst many things, we discussed what role human clinicians might play in a world where #AI can technically communicate better and in fact simulate empathy. Ken's makes a case for human empathy, for a human clinician being involved in the process, even though they may be imperfect in their communication (by virtue of being human!). There is something about knowing that someone even tried to care that may not come across with AI. Funnily enough, you might have heard that OpenAI retracted use of the voice called 'Sky' that they had announced with much fanfare last week during the ChatGPT 4o release. This is believed to have been partially the result of actress Scarlett Johansson sueing OpenAI for the use of a voice similar to her own and partially due to criticism of the "overly flirtatious" tone of the voice, which critics felt may have been manipulative and implying a connection between the AI and the human that did not exist (https://lnkd.in/gMP4GMRf). I believe we will be hearing many more similar stories, as the march towards improving #generativeAI continues and as lines get blurred. However, it will be up to the public to decide what value we put on humans being in the loop, and what we define as a genuine connection.
