There's a lot of claims being made about the impact of AI in healthcare, but some are not backed diverse data and research. Our Chief Science Officer, Michael Tanana, unpacks why this is essential for AI in mental health. "Particularly in healthcare, lots of companies are making wild claims [about their use of AI], but not many have the data to support what they're doing...Our academic background helps us think about putting a value on client safety and balancing ethics with innovation. Healthcare demands a higher standard than the typical Silicon Valley way of doing things."

#ICYMI – Our Founding Head of #ML and now Professor in Residence Andrew Beam joined a panel of experts at “The promise and perils of AI in health care” event, hosted by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Andy explored both the opportunities (and the challenges) facing the integration of #MachineLearning and #GenerativeAI across the healthcare system, navigating the intersection of technical advancements and societal implications. 🎙 At this month's Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health "The promise and perils of AI in health care" event, a panel of experts including HDSI Faculty Affiliate Andrew Beam explored the future of #AI + the challenges of integrating #machinelearning (#ML) + #generativeAI into our #healthcare system. 💬 "When you’re operating in this machine learning for health care and public space, you’re operating at the edges of a technical problem and a structural societal problem. And oftentimes, bias is a structural problem that has been codified in the #data, and so it becomes more like a societal thing that we need to fix." – Andrew Beam 🎞 Watch the event recording: https://lnkd.in/enwbNKXA 📸 Follow the HDSI on Instagram: https://lnkd.in/e74WNBNj

For your weekend health care research reflections, 💡 here's an interesting clip 💡 of our Associate Chief of Research Operations Amanda Breeden, CRA talking with colleagues at a PEX Network conference about AI applied to clinical care. Breeden describes AI in American health care as a "go forward, stop" dynamic and says that more testing and data security is needed. As a learning health system, Denver Health embraces conversations like these as we continue to innovate and evolve how we implement evidence into practice for the benefit of our patients. Share to your networks to keep the conversation going! #researchexcellence #processexcellence #AI #learninghealthsystem

💫 Imagine this – next time your social scroll or online game is interrupted by trolls, AI intervenes to remove the abuse before you see it. This isn't science fiction, tools that monitor toxic behaviour already exist. But can we trust AI to make online spaces better? Drs Eduardo Oliveira and Lucy Sparrow join Dr. Mahli-Ann Butt in reporting on recent research into AI-driven moderation for The Conversation Australia + NZ → unimelb.me/4dqrgAs

If one still has doubts whether #AIinHealthcare will happen or not, please listen to this interview with legendary #VinodKhosla. I too believe if not for science alone, #health-economics will eventually make case for this. Some highlights from this: - the more we use AI the better it gets, - constraints on health systems don’t seem to get better, - Human Doctors can still lead the treatment while AI can be a 24/7 support in between appointments (I’d say to at least begin with), - if not from USA, it may come from China, Russia, India as early adaptors, - whoever wins the AI war, will win the economics war and be the next super leader nation, - and more!

2moThis is an ambitious project, Mike, uniting mental healthcare and AI. I was a practicing mental health counselor before I made a career change to software engineering, and the two world often feel like different planets. I'm glad to see you helping the mental health field see value in high-technology. For my part, I'll keep helping engineers learn how to listen and communicate with people and not just their code editors!
