I have just finished reading the chapter on Think Win-Win from Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and it really opened my eyes. In a world where competition often dominates, the idea of finding solutions where everyone benefits felt like a shift in mindset. The concept of Think Win-Win isn’t about giving in or compromising your own goals. It’s about having the courage and mindset to seek outcomes where both parties succeed. This approach builds stronger relationships, fosters trust, and ultimately creates more sustainable success in the long run. It reminded me that collaboration doesn’t mean losing—it means finding a way for everyone to come out ahead. Most organisations crave greater collaboration and a reduction of silos. Yet, most will also readily admit that there hasn’t been enough time for the ideal amount of communication, time together or celebration of progress and success. Due to the pandemic, turnover and hybrid working, some of your people may not have ever met each other in person. They often simply don't know who does what. It's much harder to collaborate with those that you don't know or trust. Building rapport, relationships and trust are directly related to effective collaboration. A simple way forward is to enable this is to get people together in cross-functional groups as much as possible, working on a specific and tangible piece - a small project, a review, a consultation.
