Communications, media, CSR, public policy experience, focus on regulated sectors. Risk Reduction advocate.

Today Belgium has one of the highest smoking prevalences in Western Europe - it is about 4 times higher than in Sweden, and almost double of the UK’s. Why have the UK and Sweden faster declines of cigarette use, than most other countries in Europe, including Belgium? These 2 countries are part of geographically diverse growing number of states that took different policy options that added a risk reduction pillar to tobacco control. That is why Swedish and British adult smokers that failed to quit, have over the years been encouraged by doctors, public health regulators and media to adopt non-combustible alternatives to cigarettes. In Belgium the option taken has so far been different, resulting in denying adult smokers who don’t quit licit access to alternatives to cigarettes. Please, click on the post shared below and watch the TV interview with Massimo Andolina, President of Europe region, about our transformation and how we stand a better chance of making cigarettes obsolete with dialogue, collaboration and evidence-based policies.
