WHAT GOES IN COMES BACK When you don’t recruit the best for the government, you can’t expect the best from government. People don’t accept a Person with Disability as their private office peon, private driver or even a maid at home but want the government to recruit them into Civil Services to become District Collectors, etc. Irony just died a thousand deaths! Affirmative action is necessary, but multi-generational reservation, OBC Creamy Layer, EWS, PwD, Women, Sports, etc in the name of that is not only a big sham but downright anti-national. Not only the integrity of UPSC recruitment process came under cloud but on top of that there is what is called #UPSC_Jihad allegedly at the behest of the RSS-BJP Government whereby more marks are apparently awarded to Muslim candidates in the interviews. If there was no truth in it, why the Sudarshan News TV expose was shut down? Lastly, I have a vested interest in the integrity and fairness of public service recruitment. For, I am its beneficiary and therefore the least I should do is to protect it. Likewise, the least that is expected of all those beneficiaries of the honest recruitment process is to outrage against #UPSC_Scam and institutional compromise.

The Indian government has canceled the UPSC advertisement calling for lateral entry into 45 specialized posts, citing the need to uphold the constitutional mandate for social justice. The rollback, announced by the Department of Personnel & Training, emphasizes ensuring that marginalized communities receive rightful representation in government services. The positions were classified as single-cadre posts, with no reservation provisions, prompting the government to reconsider its approach to lateral entry. 📢 At YJSIP HQ we were really pleased to read about the 'impressive' Youth Justice Services being praised in HM Inspectorate's Annual Report. The HM Inspectorate of Probation’s Youth Annual Report 2023 was released last week and highlights the "impressive" quality of youth justice services (YJS), with 75% rated as either ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’. Key factors include stable workforces, effective training, and high-quality staff supervision, contributing to strong outcomes for young people. However, concerns do remain around funding cuts, gaps in probation secondees, and disproportionate representation of vulnerable groups. Chief Inspector Martin Jones emphasised the need for continued investment to sustain positive results. In YJS's around the country, we are well aware of the need for continued investment in a climate of funding and resource reduction. With this in mind we need to be aware of the risks of services who are being asked to support their peers, being spread so thin and then themselves sinking. We see this in practice when a service receives an 'outstanding' and, understandably, other services flood them with requests to learn from their success, or visit or observe them. Services want to say yes, but juggling this along with providing day to day services becomes unmanageable without further resources. #YouthJustice #Probation #SocialImpact #JusticeReform #PublicServices

#WomanityIndex2023: In Oyo State, there is no costed plan for implementing laws to criminalise GBV. The law is silent on the need for annual reporting on implementation, unlike the federal VAPP Act. Access to legal justice is hindered as there are no dedicated GBV courts and judges due to funds and lack of sufficient human resources. The state lacks a structured witness protection program for victims and their families. Support services are underfunded, with inadequate shelters and SARCs, and existing ones struggle with funding for sustenance and manpower. Government information and awareness programs about GBV are often project-related and not for continuous citizen education. Many gender desk officers lack a full understanding of GBV and still hold cultural values that hinder the success of anti-GBV advocacy. Helping people with convictions to change their futures through entrepreneurship and reduce the risk of re-offending.
Attended the Ways to Work Event at HMP Wymott recently - thanks for the invite Ella Callagher. Spent the day talking to the men about their ambitions for the future and how self-employment could be a pathway for them. We talked about potential barriers, and with the focus of the day engaging with people convicted of a sexual offence, finding work can be additionally challenging. Having these conversations means they can engage with their offender managers / probation worker in a meaningful and constructive way to understand any issues they may face due to their conviction and licence restrictions upon release to ensure there is buy-in for their idea and they can seek to develop their ideas further. I appreciate this can be challenging, but I believe that any person, irrespective of their past, or their conviction who wishes to change their life, can do so, with the support of the relevant stakeholders. For this group on men, you will see their measure of success can be just: - Sense of self belief -Stability -Staying out of prison and using their skills and talents to work towards their ideas as highlighted in the infographic below. I'll be talking to the men again in a few weeks to develop their idea further. #entrepreurship #selfemployed #reintegration #rehabilitation

As we strive for progress and development in our emerging nation, we Indians are confronted with pressing questions about the real issues surrounding the idea of independence and women's safety. Are our educational and professional spaces truly safe havens, free from violence and exploitation? The recent incident at RG Kar Medical College highlights significant gaps in safety measures and underscores the urgent need for effective protections. As a society, we have fallen short in safeguarding the well-being of all individuals, especially women. This tragic event emphasizes the urgent need for systemic change to create a safer environment for everyone. Reflecting on these issues, we urge everyone to commit to building a safer, more just society for everyone. It is only through addressing these challenges head-on that we can hope to create a future where everyone feels secure and respected. #wewantjustice #rgkarincident #mntc #justiceforrgkar
