Over the past two days, I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Red Classic -- the wholly owned logistics subsidiary of Coca-Cola Consolidated. During my time there, I shadowed Chris Foshee -- the Brand and Digital Marketing Manager to learn more about the operations of the trucking industry. Throughout my time there, I sat in on four meetings: external commercial strategy, tactical vs strategy to improving KPIs, engaging in ways Red Classic will implement internal Teammate engagement for the next four months, and planning for the 20th annual Carolinas Food Industry Council (CFIC) convention with Matt Henson -- the annual celebration of the grocery industry across the Carolinas. A premier highlight of the visit was learning about Red Classic's partnership with Sonoco. Though concrete, the two companies recently created a partnership focused on sustainability at their Hartsville, SC yard. The primary issue I learned about was while they have space for 30-35 on-site trailers, at-times that number doubles or triples -- leading to lower percentages or values of KPIs such as excessive use of carbon emissions, higher idling / unloading / and loading times, all calculating to a lower on-time delivery rate than the end goal of 99%. The final project I had was meeting with Kaci Ramlow and Britta Miano to discuss solutions to improve driver efficiency; of which included, but not limited to, improving visibility signage for drivers and better communication between the drivers and dispatch. Dry Van Freight Market Update Week 35: ~Retail events like Labor Day Sales, Back-to-School shopping, and upcoming Halloween parties are expected to increase truckload volumes in the Allentown, Harrisburg, & Philly markets. ~Allentown has seen truckload volumes increase by 5.4% in the last month which has raised spot rates up over 2% of this time frame last year. ~Allentown > Charlotte paid trucks an average of $1.50/mile which is $0.17/mile higher than Week 35 2023. ~Harrisburg > Boston averaged $3.19/mile which is also up 2% y/y. #freightmarket #supplychain #transportation #logistics #trucking

Lessons from the car wash When we at theGrogroup talk pricing on our commercial / leadership programmes and more importantly, pricing conversations to help firms achieve a fair commercial return (win / win) for the knowledge, expertise, skills, collaboration and commitment that goes into the client service 'mix'.... ... we often hear 'It is so difficult. You don't know my clients. It is all about price' Of course this is so important. But in our experience (and from talking to many clients of clients) what really is important is clarity of just what we provide to clients for the fee. When we ask 'Do clients really know exactly what they GET for the money they pay to you?' there can be confusion. It is easy to think about the tangible output. The computation. The report. But there is more than that What about the 4 meetings (with the partner) that the client gets as a matter of course The natural benchmarking that the professional may do (from their deep sector expertise) The regular email / phone check-ins that happen as a matter of course The informal advice/ opinion that is often given without a second thought The seminars / updates that the client is invited to The introductions to other professionals / other clients The feelings of safety and protection the client gets from the 80 years combined experience of the delivery team Being clear on this is so important If a client comes to you with the 'we have had another quote which is X% cheaper than you' then it is always interesting to respond with 'fantastic - this is what you get for our fee, do you know what the other firm is giving you for that?' If the client is looking to reduce the fee then we can go through the list and 'trade away' what isn't so important to them ensuring that we maintain 'commercial balance'. 'Ok so you don't need 4 meetings with a partner, you are happy with just the one partner meeting and the planning meeting with a manager" "You don't need the benchmarking report we send you. Ok we can take that out" Clarity is so important Car washes have sorted it haven't they? Clear pricing options and absolute clarity of scope of engagement. We know exactly what we get and what we don't get for the fee. They wouldn't provide the full Valet for the outside wash fee. But do you ever? #commerciality #pricing

This is the difference between an AVERAGE broker and an AWESOME broker. Know your lanes. Know everything about your lanes. This is a client, an independent family-owned grocery distributor. I replaced their logistics manager and handled all their sourcing of dry, frozen, and refrigerated goods. They place the order; I do the rest. I decide if it’s an LTL, FTL, or multi-pick FTL and the negotiating of the pickup allowances. Carriers love when you give them more information about the load to help things go more smoothly. This is a conversation I had with a driver on Sunday. First time we had done business together. McCain fries 🍟 out of Americold in Rochelle, IL. We all know there is a shortage of truck parking and drivers have sited that truck parking is a top 3 concern out on the road. Sharing information that a driver can park on-site helps not only reduce your clients and carriers exposure to parking on an exit ramp, but lets them know they have a safe haven to rest. I also let the driver know that the gas station has a deli in case he would like to get something to eat that is open 24/7. The best thing you can do is ask questions of shippers and receivers about their parking and amenities like if the driver can use the bathroom. This will make your relationships go much father with carriers and your clients alike. #themoreyouknow

2024 Has really been full speed ahead here at Lighthouse Drinks Just to give some background...We started Lighthouse Drinks with a humble 4-head filler machine in a small room, and today, our expansion has reached two massive warehouses and an incredible Polaris Automazioni srl bottling line. (might need another one very soon) From bottling just 2,000 bottles of whiskey a week, we now achieve an average of 60,000 to 100,000 bottles a month. This Year, we're on target to hit an incredible milestone: 1+million bottles!
