‘I am an expert in the art of the possible’. Sarah Brightman I am really looking forward to my second year on the NLA’s Expert Panel on Culture. It’s fair to say that arts and culture sector should be top of the agenda for any public or private organisation in #London. We are after all a ‘city of culture’, a global city, international city, ancient city and we rely heavily on the arts for employment, business, tourism, innovation and ideas. All this art trickles down and in the built environment there's now a growing demand for interesting, distinct, authentic places in which to work, live and play. In 2024 our #placemaking work across all property typologies saw a focus on placemaking including #Logistics and #Leisure. #BTR and #BID’s, #Retail and #Residential, and #Cultural and #Commercial. So, the good news is that the days of inner London as the urban (interesting) centre and a gradual fade to grey suburbia is long gone. Some of the most interesting parts of London are in the outer boroughs, and yet despite the success of a ‘software-content-driven' approach to development, we are still way to reliant on traditional jobs and historic systems in the industry. I hope therefore our panel will share new ideas for the arts to play a greater role in the regeneration and development of our great city and at a much earlier stage in the design process. One last thought, the position of Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport has historically been a stepping stone to a more ‘serious’ role in government, so we watch with interest to see how long Lisa Nandy MP stays in post and what level of investment and innovation she can bring to a sector sorely in need of additional funds and some serious love and respect. Step outside your comfort zone! Location is king when it comes to the success of a small to medium sized enterprise. Proximity to the right target audience being the most obvious consideration. Its role in attracting and retaining staff. The cost of local products, rents and supply chains. Access to trades, talent and business networks. Brand visibility and foot traffic. The list goes on. Micro businesses understandably tend to stick close to home, already knowing their market, customer base, and having identified a local gap that they can fill. Plus of course the convenient daily commute when added to an already overwhelming schedule. However often times, small to medium sized enterprises, which have more scope to be strategic and agile in their choice of location, can lean towards the safer option of sticking close to a known location. As part of @CommBankSmallBizWeek, our investment attraction team will be at the Melbourne Conference & Exhibition Centre (29th and 30th May 20204) for the CommBank Small Biz Expo https://lnkd.in/grsjN55M to help businesses imagine the possibilities of operating out of one of Victoria’s most exciting greater metropolitan cities. Developers are already capitalising on the unprecedented growth and change that Frankston City is seeing. With 2.7million passengers coming in and out of Frankston train station every year, the City is attracting festival goers and day trippers, long-term sea and tree changers, a wealth of new brands and entrepreneurs. The State government didnt designate us a major Metropolitan Activity Centre for nothing! Maybe its time to take a leap and explore uncharted territory in Frankston City this year. If you can’t make the Small Biz Expo then feel free to contact our investment attraction team at business@frankston.vic.gov.au to discuss the opportunities. #SmallBusinessWeek #CommBankSmallBizExpo #FrankstonCity #FrankstonCityCouncil #EconomicDevelopment #Investment #InvestmentAttraction Phil Cantillon Cam Arullanantham @angelahughes Shweta Babbar Kim Jaensch Tammy Beauchamp @traceyGreenaway Rhys Brain Ilona Ellerton Billie-Rose Burke @lisaSchefman Nathan Conroy Fiona McQueen Photo courtesy of #HotelLona which opened in Frankston in early 2023. Great to attend the London Property Alliance (CPA & WPA) City of London Market Update this morning at 8 Bishopsgate, hosted by Stanhope PLC. Tom Mabelson, John Hutchings, and Nahuel Mainard-Sardon enjoyed a thought-provoking discussion on the trends shaping the future of the City’s real estate market. There was a fascinating discussion amongst the panel exploring the trends and opportunities shaping the future of the City of London’s real estate market. The importance of a mixed development pipeline was highlighted, with future and current development blending community and leisure uses, with Grade A office space. Our key takeaway? The importance of seamless transport infrastructure in maintaining and growing the City’s global competitiveness. As we plan for growth, ensuring excellent connectivity and first-class end-of-trip facilities will be vital in attracting business and talent, reinforcing the City’s position as a world-leading business hub. #property #transportplanning
