Dick Taylor, Chief Clinical Informatics Officer at BJC HealthCare & Washington University in St. Louis, shares his thoughts about using Aura to simplify connections to specialty diagnostic labs for easier ordering and actionable results in the latest article from EpicShare. "Our oncologists send thousands of orders each year to specialty diagnostic labs that perform genetic tests to help understand how different treatment options would work for patients based on their genetic profile. The challenge was that physicians and their staff were filling out orders for these tests on paper and faxing them, and the results came back in a PDF. That was fine for legal and medical records purposes, but it’s not as useful from a clinical and treatment perspective... We wanted a simple solution for connecting to labs." For #medicaldevice manufacturers in the #US 🇺🇸 Advancing #HealthEquity in Medical Devices The FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health #CDRH has released a discussion paper titled Health Equity For Medical Devices. This initiative aims to drive innovation that reduces barriers to health equity and improves outcomes across diverse populations. Clinical studies are essential for understanding the safety and effectiveness of medical devices in the populations intended to use them. However, ensuring these studies are inclusive and representative is vital for advancing health equity. 💡 Key Focus Areas: ➢ Disease burden or condition ➢ Physiology, anatomy, and pathophysiology ➢ Technology considerations The paper also highlights the need for generalizable and representative clinical data and poses key questions to guide public feedback. The CDRH is actively seeking public input on these considerations. Submit your comments by October 4, 2024 under docket number FDA-2024-N-3616 in the Federal Register. 🚨 Critical Update for Healthcare Leaders 🚨 Attention Medical Directors and Clinical Innovation Teams: Abbott has issued an URGENT recall for their Heartmate system monitor due to concerning display glitches. With nearly 5,000 monitors affected globally, the stakes couldn't be higher for patients relying on this cardiac pump tech. 🏥💔 While no severe incidents have been reported, and a reboot often fixes the issue, the risk of accidental setting changes is real and cannot be ignored. Display errors could mislead clinicians or affect pump operation, potentially compromising patient flow when every second counts. For those at the helm of cardiology departments, patient safety is paramount. Lean on the Heartmate Touch technology for stable communication with pump systems and stay vigilant. As an executive headhunter in HealthTech, I cannot stress enough the importance of staying abreast of these medical device recalls. The direction you take can define patient outcomes and your institution's reputation. I'm here to discuss how strategic hires in MedTech can strengthen oversight and innovation in your organization. Feel free to reach out. Stay informed, stay safe. 🩺🛠️ #HeartmateRecall #PatientSafety #HealthTechLeaders

Collaborating with emerging medical device companies that have recently received their initial FDA clearance presents unique hurdles and opportunities. The case study below demonstrates the dedicated efforts of our team. Alongside our client, we conquered the obstacle but more importantly, we paved the way for widespread adoption of our client's technology in numerous healthcare facilities nationwide. 🔎 The Technology and Challenge: • The client’s technology is a hand-operated rapid infuser that allows clinicians to rapidly deliver blood or fluids to critically ill patients requiring volume resuscitation. • The client was seeking multi-faceted health economics and market access support to successfully navigate their technology through a major hurdle: hospital value analysis committee (VAC) approval processes. ☑️ The Solution: • TTi developed both pediatric and adult population budgetary impact models for consideration by hospital VAC committees. • Associated white papers, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications have since been developed collaboratively by TTi and the client. 🔑 The Outcomes: • TTi engaged in multiple qualitative research initiatives with key clinical decision-makers to better understand how to position the client’s technology for success. • TTi’s retainer with the client and hospitals over several years allowed us to provide them with top tier HE/reimbursement consultants for all of their pediatric tech development. #medtech #medicaldevices #medical #healthcare #healthcareinnovation #surgery #healthcaretechnology #innovation #HECON #healthcareeconomics #evgen #research #healthoutcomes #innovation #speedtopatient #clinical #clinicalresearch #data #publications #sepsis
