Tower cranes increase height by adding mast sections through a climbing frame, enabling construction of tall structures. A tower crane increases its height through a process called "climbing." As construction progresses, the crane must grow taller to keep up with the building. This is achieved by adding sections to the crane’s mast. A special climbing frame or collar is installed between the slewing unit (the rotating part) and the mast. The climbing frame pushes the slewing unit upward, creating a gap. A new mast section is then hoisted into place and bolted securely. This process allows the crane to grow incrementally as the structure rises. Are you confident in your ability to identify the type of decking you're working with? 🤔 Properly identifying the decking type is crucial for selecting the right fixings and ensuring a flawless installation. Different decking types have unique profiles and patterns that require specific fixings for optimal performance. Without proper identification, you risk using incompatible fixings that could damage the decking material or compromise its stability. Identifying the decking type can be a daunting task, especially when you're unfamiliar with the manufacturer or the profile seems mysterious. Valuable time can be wasted trying to figure it out. Even when you do know the manufacturer, the information available may not provide guidance on which fixings to use, leaving subcontractors in a quandary. So, what can you do to avoid this issue? Here are three essential factors to consider: 1️⃣ Profile pattern: Check for the distinctive pattern stamped on the inside of the decking profile. Manufacturers have designed these patterns to help identify their products. 2️⃣ Fixing recess dimensions: Measure the width and, if possible, the height of the fixing recess. These dimensions are tailored to accommodate the appropriate fixings. 3️⃣ Profile shape: Examine the cross-section of the profile to determine its shape—wide or narrow, shallow or deep. Remember, unless the main contractor has explicitly specified the decking type, and this information has been communicated to subcontractors, you might find yourself facing an unidentified steel decking profile.
