🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨 National COSH - National Council for Occupational Safety and Health applauds OSHA’s final “walkaround rule”! 👏 – a major win for worker safety! Starting May 1, workers can choose a representative during inspections, ensuring safer workplaces. This rule empowers workers and saves lives. 🛠️💼 David Williams, a Dollar Store General employee and worker leader with Step Up Louisiana and National COSH, shared his experience: “Having someone with you who you trust during an OSHA inspection - it will help tremendously.” Safety inspections with trusted worker representatives on-site can capture firsthand knowledge about work processes and potential hazards. They can also bridge language barriers and reduce the fear of retaliation, making workplaces safer for everyone. The Internal Responsibility System (IRS) is the foundation of PEI’s Occupational Health and Safety legislation. This means that everyone in a workplace shares the responsibility for working together to identify and control hazards that could cause harm and providing input on maintaining workplace safety. As an employer, your IRS includes: • Provide necessary training. • Provide and maintain equipment, machines, and materials safely. • Cooperate with the safety committee and representative. • Provide a psychologically healthy work environment. As a worker, your IRS includes: • Complying with company rules and safe work procedure. • Wearing PPE when required. • Reporting hazards, incidents, and unsafe work conditions. • Using machines, equipment, and materials as authorized. • Arrive at work fit for duty.
